Winger Watch/Dutch Rando Watch Yup, another one... Today's effort to trigger Harry ****espout due to his not being Lionel Messi is Brugge left winger (CTRL + C) Arnaut Groeneveld, who sounds uncannily like a cheap alternative to Steven Bergwijn considering he's Dutch, pacy, can score goals, came through PSV's academy, and made his Holland debut last year - although the obvious difference is that Bergwijn has played at a higher level due to graduating to the PSV first team, while Groeneveld was sold to second-tier NEC Breda before heading to Brugge when they failed to get promoted last season I was initially tempted to ignore this as the usual Friday story that fulfills the quota of prospects/wingers linked with us for the week, but there is something that needs to be mentioned: when he signed for NEC he was initially assigned to the youth team, but he worked his backside off in training and the gym to catch the eye of the first team coaches rather than moan to the press, and after having a stormer for NEC last season he turned down a summer offer from The Sheikh Mansour Team to sign for Brugge as he wanted to play football and improve rather than spend a couple of season getting paid big bucks while not playing
£20m for a HG England international with three years on his contract? Who does The Sun's sums? Arron Banks?
Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has expressed interest in bringing Tottenham's Belgian defenders Jan Vertonghen, 31, and Toby Alderweireld, 30, back to the Dutch club this summer. Sure, just send De Ligt our way and we'll talk...
I'm sure the drop in wages he will experience at Ajax, will be more than compensated by being a lot closer to his homeland + the UEFA glory awaiting the new Ajax era.
That does make a lot of sense. They'd have to get the business done early to convince me though. Solid pre-season with some new blood would be a real statement of intent, in adddition to the new stadium of course.
I'd like to think Gough is right, although a former cricketer is purely going off guesswork more so than insight. I did say at the start of this season I thought we'd go big in the market as new signings to accompany the new stadium would attract a lot of buzz so hopefully I'll somewhat be right... Just a year too late lol.
The thing is that at least two new signings would need to hit the ground running, as one would be the Dembele replacement while the other would surely be replacing Toby
CM would definitely need to settle quickly as we could really do with a creative spark from deep. At least at CB we’ve got Dave who’ll probably take over from Toby anyway, with the new CB initially coming in as competition.
He’s a London lad as well... perfect time to come back to London now a certain London club has a shiny new stadium . Doubt he’ll leave Dortmund in the summer though, he’s got a good thing going there and still learning his trade. If I were him I wouldn’t leave just yet.
