I've never lifted my hands to my kids. It's not something I could ever do.

I don't judge people that give their kids a little smack as long as it's not excessive.

    I voted no.

  2. Yeah I voted no - there's already laws in force for those who go way over the top so let's not start criminalising people for a little smack.

Yeah fair enough. I was very independent which I think my parents encouraged from a young age but it sort of came back to bite them a bit later on when I was a complete **** and did whatever I wanted. There was also a bit of that where threats were made but not followed through on.

Anyway I don't really have an opinion on smacking, I don't think it straightened me out at all and that just happened as I got older and saw the realities of what could happen if I carried on as I was, which is very hard to explain to a child in a meaningful way.

I agree with you but I had to vote Yes just incase there's a little twat somewhere who needs a good clip round the ear. I remember getting pulled up from my sideburns by a teacher once...it worked coz I never took the piss out of that piggy faced Home Economics teacher ever again

The fat pig...we all know why she became a Home Economics teacher

It’s a no from me, if you get to the point where you’ve got to be physical with your kids then that’s your own problem. Smacking kids obviously works in the moment but it’s the lazy option imo. There’s other ways to deal with bad behaviour, I don’t want my kid to grow up and think it’s ok for somebody to hit them when they step out of line.

I was smacked often and got the belt a few times as well and it didn’t do me any good, never stopped me doing naughty things.

I got beat as a child by my Mother's bloke. He was a champion bodybuilder so he hit hard.

I never respected that ****ing animal. It taught me nothing but resentment and hate. I would never pass that onto my kids.

I voted no. There may be too many mitigating circumstances to enable to police it. There will be too many good parents who may get grassed on and dragged through the courts whilst the ones who beat the **** out of their kids at the drop of a hat will continue to fall under the radar. I mean, can you imagine at the school gates, the politics and pure hatred between some of the mothers. One of the mothers lightly taps her child on the backside. The police will be knocking on her door later due to sheer spite. She would have hardly had time to put the tea on.
They need to focus more on genuine child abusers.

One theory on the origin of the phrase "rule of thumb" was that this was the 'acceptable' measurement of the width of a piece of wood that a man should beat his wife with ... apparently some PC ****er - probably a woman (or Wendy) - complained ... and look what has happened since ... <doh>

I took my little girl to look at a nursery the other day, some other little kid wouldn’t give her the rake he was playing with in the sand pit... it was at that exact moment that I knew it was my Mrs’ job to drop and pick the kids up from school every day for the rest of her life.

See in this situation I would have banned my ex from taking the child until I had seen my son get revenge thus proving to me that he is capable of looking after his ****

I reckon similar things will hve happened to me and I did similar things to other kids when I was in play school but it doesn’t make it easier. Smashing the little boy’s dad all over the street because his kid would’t give my kid the rake probably doesn’t sound too great to the judge.

I'm pretty sure if I ever have a kid most of my parenting skills will be from the first 15 minutes or so of 300

Then theres the child who gets punished by being sent to bed with no supper. Is so upset that he goes straight upstairs and e-mails the feds saying that his dad smacked his bottom 3 months ago. I just think that a smacking ban risks putting smackers and those indulging in child violence under the same brolly. Except the smackers will get hauled out cos they often do it in public whilst the abusers get away with it cos they do it behind closed doors.
