Obviously has some Geordie blood in him: - knocked out - swallowed his tongue - opponent pulls his tongue out - gets up and sets up 2 goals for Switzerland https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-47684741 Don’t think he was diagnosed with concussion so should be okay for the weekend although a comment like “my skull is still humming” sounds a bit dubious.
fair play to him but I'm very surprised they allowed him to play on. Good to know we've got that kind of character in our team though.
I remember it being argued by a few he was an OK signing at best. Surely it's no longer open for debate. Can have a brain fart defensively, and in possession, but no more often than Lejuene. Between them 12 mil has been an absolute steal.
Would have been a really harsh assessment we only signed him in the summer. Its like those writing off Muto, give the lad some time, we've hardly seen him play. Schar and Lejeune are clearly not good enough to play for the top teams to me. That doesn't make you a bad player though. Indeed some of the top sides defender picks over the last few seasons, I'd argue they are better (Phil Jones). Schar is prone to being a bit daft at times, Lejeune has a chronic lack of pace. They have their faults but outside the top sides, I would not swap the pair for many others in the also ran teams.
I was in this category earlier in the season but fair play to the lad he has been immense this year. My concern was generally all of our signings bar Muto came from teams who were relegated (Ki & Fernandez @ Swansea, Schar @ Deportivo, Rondon @ WBA) but to be fair to them all they have come in and done much better than I expected so wheres my humble pie. Still not sure who I prefer between Fernandez and Schar though tbf as you say he is prone to a moment of madness every now and again but can Fernandez bang it top bins from 30 yards? I do think the preseason hysteria was warranted though with the lack of spending/making a profit, Rafa's future still undecided (as it still is) and other bits and pieces like Ashley buying up companies and not putting a penny into the club.
Definitely. When we first signed him I did just think 'back-up' but watching him take the ball out of defence got me excited and I was probably singing his praises a little too early. As you say the hysteria was well warranted, we effectively signed a bunch of ragtag relegation misfits who weren't exactly showing form before they arrived. I know Rafa can get signings wrong but credit to him this season, most have come off well. Just need Muto to prove his worth now. Tough one with Fernandez. If we had a more creative midfield there's probably less need for Schar's attacks so would go for Feredrico. I'd love Schar to go defensive mid but its debatable how consistent he could be in that area with more pressure on him when he has the ball, plus we're well stocked in the CM area. I suppose if Diame and Hayden go we have a guy who can potentially cover both defence and there
Agree with pushing him forwards could be a bit risky but I also think Schar could do a job at RB as well if you want to go more defensive back 4/5 instead of Yedlin bombing on. In regards to Muto he has played 5.5 games this season in terms of mins across 14 appearances so he really needs a chance in the team to show what he can do but how do you get him in the squad atm in the formation we are playing and with the players in his positions who are so in form! People need to be a bit more patient with him and some others, myself included.
If I were 14 I'd have a picture of him on my wall. Incidentally... some news.... My Keto diet is working and I'm smaller now. This means I can fit in to my Mustard pants again so will give them an airing at the LFC game. Jak gets all wet when he sees me in them.
