Sounds like the turn out and propaganda for every general election I every remember, and I am 58.
That's how a democracy works, I would make voting compulsory but it will never happen so a 'minority' will always win.

It wasn't a general election though. It was a case of elected representatives asking an Ill informed public to make a decision the government of the day should have been making on our behalf. Cameron thought he'd be smart and Ask The Audience. The audience, with nothing but a virulent right wing media to influence it's decision, told him to **** off.

Whole things an epic clusterfuck. Democracy my arse, this is an exercise in populist idiocy.

Spot on Archers, and Gauleiter May's speech to the camera was a classic of its genre. I half expect news of the burning of the Reichstag to provoke the imposition of martial law.

May's speech was actually quite sinister. I think we are entitled to expect better from a British parliamentarian, of any political persuasion.

    Shakespeare often did that.

I'm 69 and beg to differ. Elections are fought with manifestos in which the party publish it's agenda, promises that may or may not be kept during their tenure. The results can and will be judged at the next election. The eventual outcome of this will affect generations to come. This referendum had statements, no promises we're led to believe, just assertions of how we held the whip hand and negotiations would be easy and straightforward. Another vote is needed, as I said before that would be democracy. Have a look at Archer's post he has a point to make to.

Serious question, do you think people read the manifestoes in general elections or are led by the media and sound bites the same as happened in the vote?

Some the former, probably most the latter.

Democracy is a flawed mode of government; still way better than autocracy or dictatorship though

Very few would read a manifesto. It's TV/radio news and current affairs, sound bites, social media debates on manifesto "promises" whatever. Election are run every 5 years maximum, the brexit outcome has far greater long term implications particularly for the younger generations. We old farts have to consider their future. This nonsense has been run on party lines, how wrong is that? It's cross party and negotiations should have been in parliamentary hands.

What is it with Corbyn? Doesn't he want to become PM? Walking out of a meeting with Chuka in the room does him no favours at all and of course the right-wing press will make a meal of it. I hope he has the sense to realise that he was out of order and apologises to the great man, who I would have loved to see become the next PM. Not going to happen now.

If I remember my history, when the Ancient Greeks came up with a form of democracy, the government posts were elected by lottery from the general population and replaced after a year (or some time period). Thus, no corrupt career politicians could have any influence. I still quite like this idea (except that bloke down my street who shouts at the school children as they pass his house could be Foreign Secretary) Actually, maybe he is.

It is very much the 2nd tweet that is annoying. The whole "if it is bad it is our own fault, we will have to get on with it" is dumb **** to say. If Brexit is as bad as the actual experts say it will very much cause deaths and very much cause far more suffering of the poor. The dumb "you are just guessing" is a idiot thing to say when you have many expects saying the same thing. Matt will be fine, be may not be a millionaire but the guy is very well off.

Notice I didn't say anything about stopping leaving. I am fine with people that think stopping leaving is against the people even if I disagree. It is the "I will be fine get on with it" crap I think is dumb.

Sort of agree with you on that but also think everyone is entitled to their own view, as I said I voted remain.
One thing I would say is that no one really knows what will happen, some 'experts' predict the eurozone will fall apart in the next few years, some have predicted the UK being the biggest economy in Europe within five years of we leave, others predict Armageddon if we leave.
Who knows only time will tell.
