I think Hoos was saying almost the opposite, a larger year round use stadium is vital outside of the PL because gate receipts and use of it for other events are the main source of income. In the PL, and with first year or 2 high parachute payments, gate receipts are a smallish contribtor to total income.
If you own the stadium perhaps you can generate income from it, but why should gates get bigger in the Championship or below just because you have a bigger stadium? And anyway that is what, a decade off (just running on Spurs’ timetable when they already had a site to build on)? We’re ****ed now. The saving grace is that most other clubs are too, which might be enough to keep us in the Championship for a few years.
The whole thing is crazy and, ultimately, bad for business and football. Fans support and attend because they want entertaining and to see some success at some time. FFP squeezes all the clubs (even the mighty Man City in trouble today apparently) while the agents (and possibly the media circus) drives up the value of players and, therefore, their wages which, in turn, are unsustainable due to FFP. If the club tries to keep within FFP, the quality of the footie goes down as we've found out. It's just a ridiculous vicious circle that only the few are lucky enough to escape. We had our chance......Twice!
That's my point exactly. Until stupid owners who know nothing at all about football stop playing Russian roulette with our club's future we cannot move forward. One day through luck as much as anything else we will get the combination again of a successful manager and unknown players who over-deliver ie a third chance. I just hope that Fernandes and his cronies have long since gone. Sod the new stadium. We need to reinstate our scouting system because we will be a selling club for many years to come. SLF seems to be in charge of recruitment in the transfer market. He has got the message. Have we got the patience? Changing the manager once or twice a season suggests not.
I think history generally suggests bigger stadiums, bigger gates, but I'm not sure at all that will apply to us in as you say probably a number of years.
I am not sure it is a bigger stadium that we are quite looking for. It is a more versatile stadium, that could be used for other things. It being bigger (25-30K) would help quite a bit on both our own football front and also in its other usage plans. We want a stadium that could be used a lot more than ours is, which I believe it has very very little usage outside QPR-related matters. We need a sstadium that is a conference and business centre, a gig venue, a venue for other sporting events (eg the associated athletics stadium, boxing venue) a community centre, maybe a social club (with their associated events), maybe some retail and restaurant opportunities. Many of these things cannot be done at HQ due to the structure of the stadium, lack of growth area, lack of parking and social problems associated with it being on a street location (noise and crowd problems) The extra income revenue flows would greatly help the club grow as a football clb and place it again at the heart of the community
This! Players wage expectations aren’t going to change any time soon, so we need to be creative. A versatile stadium will enhance the club, bring additional revenue. We need to move into the new commercial world because the players wages bubble isn’t bursting and the EFL is rubbish at creating revenue for clubs while strangling them/protecting them.
I don't mean to appear flippant, but would a bigger stadium mean increased leg room when sitting down? As so far as attracting bigger crowds, we are one of 4 West London sides and there are always going to be those that follow the sides doing best...or glory hunters.
Bolton are in desperate trouble. The players and staff were promised their wages yesterday, that didn't happen. Two players have threatened to resign if they're not payed in the next fortnight. Worrying times for a lot of clubs
Sorry a stupid question. Does the FFP not apply to Premiership teams in any way or are the TV payments so huge that they mask the ridiculous spending? If so, how can anyone promoted ever expect to avoid FFP if they don’t survive at least four years in the Premiership. The Championship clubs should rally together for a legal review/challenge of the rules before someone goes into Administration to avoid paying the fine.
I've said it before but it's worth saying again, football should be ashamed of itself. While Premier League clubs and players wallow in the bottomless money trough a local community club goes bust for a sum that wouldn't represent one day's pay for many top players...
Bolton facing another winding-up petition in the High Court tomorrow after their takeover fell through. Be interesting to see whether it may affect our match against them on the 30th. That could be Bolton and Birmingham with 12 point deductions by then ... https://www.skysports.com/football/...erers-face-winding-up-order-with-takeover-off
Fascinating indeed. Relieved NOT to see us appear and thrilled to see Liverpool doing it the right way!
Hate to say this but every time we play a team and I think there's an advantage from something like this, it never works out quite that way.
