It's almost as if Hugh Bennett is a hatchet man for Guido Fawkes' blog

Oh wait, that's exactly what Hugh Bennett is

Well it’s not like the second referendum petition back in 2016 had tens of thousands of fake signatures is it? Oh wait...

But I’m sure this one is completely watertight. It’s not like the server has gone down frequently due to the SQL database getting hammered.

    Heres an idea...

Let’s submit a FOI request to get a list of every IP address used to submit a name on the Revoke A50 petition. A simple script will easily map those against foreign IPs often used by bots or VPNs which we can safely discount as illegitimate.

Then we’ll have a clearer number of the genuine signatures and not a ton of fake submissions by hackers having a laugh at our expense.

    Can’t say fairer than that.

Why bother? The government's going to ignore it anyway.

I’m in Spain and I signed it. So long as you’re a UK citizen it’s fine. You don’t have to reside there.

You thought I was serious and they would accept a request like that? <laugh>

Yes, I'm perfectly aware of that. However as my note explains, it is very common for bots and hackers to spoof their IPs using very common techniques. The footprints are very easy to spot. It would be easy to tell your submission from Spain was genuine whilst their's was not. Filtering out automated submissions should be fairly routine.

I run several dozen sites and they get attacked on a daily basis by bots trying to brute force or submit automated spam ****. One can only imagine the sheer scale sites like https://petition.parliament.uk get. Unimaginable levels.

If you genuinely believe all 1.3m signatures on that petition are genuine then I’m sorry, but you’re sorely mistaken. The voting patterns and speed, not to mention server downtime screams of bots.

Of course not, but the various attempts to play it down all appear to be treating it more seriously than actual vote rigging.
It's a petition that's going to be ignored. It's only interesting as a sign of public opinion and a reaction to May's ludicrous rant.

Very possibly. I’m just pointing out that it’s perfectly legitimate to sign it from another country.

If you remove all the extraneous IP's the figure is still north of a million. (data chart circulated a few hours back). The intrusion numbers numbers neither negate the size nor speed of the petition. It's accepted that there is some bot interference.
    So what's your point?

I use one occasionally, but it slows up my already not spectacularly fast WiFi.

I do use Smart dns, which enables me to get US Netflix, Amazon Prime, and all the UK catch up services - like the Iplayer.

The point is, what’s everyone including the BBC and Channel 4 getting over excited about? It’s a petition. It’s not like Supreme Leader Mayhem will act on it.

I hopr and believe that parliament will step in next week and take over.

She’ll try to present her dead parrot deal for a third time and if Bercow doesn’t stop her from doing it, she’ll lose again anyway.

At that point I think Parliament will have had enough. There’s even talk of the pro Euro Tories joining forces with labour to bring her down.

I think NSIS makes the point for me. It is only a petition but the strength of it is unusual and if it influences the HoC as a whole then there is a chance that sense will prevail. Not May herself of course as I think she is batshit crazy.
