RIP Dick Adland, aka Dick Slexia Drummer of Piranhas fame, a very dear old friend of mine. Lost his fight with cancer. Also played with Red Lorry Yellow Lorry (Nothing Wrong Album) John Watts (Fischer Z) and many many sessions. Could listen to a track and be able to play it, didn't need a musical score. He stood in and played reggae drums for Misty in Roots at a festival when their drummer was sick. He would wan't the world to know that in the TOTP Zambezi track, it was not him wearing the silly monkey suit playing the drums. When Pete Waterman suggested it, Dick told him to 'F... Off, I'm a serious musician'. It is actually Pete Waterman on Drums wearing the monkey suit. Here is what they could do without Waterman's interference
A sad loss. I saw them in Nottingham around 79/80 when my older brother was at Uni there. A good night. RIP
Was that when Siobhan Fahey could actually sing ?? Just watched a TotP from Jun/Jul 1987 (jeez the charts were sh*te) .
I actually saw Bananarama support The Jam in 1981, I don't actually recall them particularly, it was a very short set, the Questions and Department S were also on that night. Weller also provided a song for their first album.
First up from last night, Hanging Around... I'm not sure if it's me but the place didn't feel that full last night. The Stranglers normally pull a very decent crowd, maybe it was the football or people are saving their pennies for the gig with Alice Cooper in October? However, that's at the O2 in Charlton, so unlikely? Anyway, a good night. They always are a good show. Maybe not as good as The Damned at their best but certainly much better than when The Damned are on a bad night.
Still sounds great - brilliant song and Baz has really grown on me, every bit The Stranglers front man now and considering that Jet Blacks were huge boots to fill, Jim on the drums is doing a great job
I agree. Some new members piss you off, some work. I never got Paul Roberts. He had a perfectly good voice but his on stage persona never seemed to fit the band. I like them more since he left. Baz is the band's front man and it feels right. I hanker for one last original line-up gig of The Damned, The Stranglers, Gerneration X, etc. but when the Pistols got back together, I didn't go for it. If it's just for the money, they can poke it. The Damned and The Stranglers are in it for life. It's who these guys are...
Only just saw this on the news ... The great Scott Walker has sadly left us. One of those truly rare velvety voices.
