Thanks JMF. I depend on your great spreadsheets to work out possible outcomes. One match at a time and all that but it's hard to resist the temptation to look ahead. It's like working out the run rate required at the end of a test match. I said 14 points above which would yield 92 points. Four wins and two draws from the last 8 matches would achieve that and Leeds would need six wins and a draw from 8 to match it. If they lose again their margin will be very tight. Every game we win ratchets the pressure on them. The Boro match could be critical, being followed by home games against QPR and Reading while Leeds are away to Preston and Brum.
Reading through Robin Sainty's latest MFW article I was struck by this: "Pressed on what would happen if we go up, Webber confirmed that we would avoid the Fulham model of mass change and look at keeping what we have while adding four or five. He also emphasised that English players are overpriced when you compare them to the likes of Buendia and Onel Hernandez, and with the Premier League rules on foreign players more relaxed than the Championship, I think we could see more of the policy of the last two years." Does anybody know the difference in "the Premier League rules on foreign players" suggested here? Full article: http://norwichcity.myfootballwriter...-trust-rounded-off-with-with-star-studded-qa/
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homegrown_Player_Rule_(England) So it's 8 in a squad of 25, but no stipulation that there has to be 6 in the match day squad. Krul/Sub GK Hanley Aarrons Lewis Thompson/Cantwell - if he stays Plus 2 more Edit - I wonder if Morris can make the step up?? I've a feeling both he and Idah will go on loan next season.
If there are not enough HG players, the squad number can be reduced from 25. Shouldn't be a problem if we keep our HG players. How many players can you name in your Premier League squad? 25, but this can be lower if there are not enough homegrown players in the squad. How many homegrown players must you name? If you name a squad of 25, eight of those must be homegrown. If you have fewer than eight, the squad must be reduced by one player each time.
Thanks to both of you for that! I make our current squad as 25, but McGovern, Pinto, Passlack and Marshall will probably move on. Not sure what will happen with Rhodes either, so SW's 4-5 new players seems about right.
I see MFW still needs a few more people to sign up to make a regular contribution, so that it can continue with it's match reports/analysis etc. Please have a look at today's article and sign up if you can afford it. Thanks PS - Dave - did you get an answer to your question re the donation being in dollars??
Yes I did miss out Pinto, Cromer. Similarly you missed out Godfrey, JMF. Rhodes would be 8 if he stays, but I suspect Bruce may want him back at the Wendies. I'd think at least two of the 4-5 new players would need to be English or Welsh.
DDF has been busy - 'Godfrey’s form at centre-back has kept Timm Klose and Grant Hanley on the sidelines recently but the 21-year-old says City’s experienced players have given him their full backing. "They have been really supportive of me,” he added, speaking to City’s matchday programme. “When I have played, and maybe not even had the best of games, they have still been there encouraging me and trying to keep me going. That’s nice and it’s what you have got to have in the squad. “That’s what makes this squad so special and unique, that as well as healthy competition we are together and they are always encouraging me.”'
Thanks Dunc - I thought he was and I think he would be a good signing. Pukki will always be the number 1 striker, as he offers so much more than just his goals. As I said previously, I wonder if Morris might go on loan to a Championship club.
I'm trying in general to keep out of predictions for signings and squad changes, because I don't want to curse things! Whilst PL homegrown rules might be more relaxed, equally I think the squad has to evolve with the 2020-21 Championship season in mind. We don't want to be in the position of having to sign expensive, homegrown players when we've just been relegated, and we can't afford to have expensive players unable to make the matchday squad because of homegrown restrictions. I agree with Rick, If we're signing 4-5, I expect that might be 3 who can go straight into the first team, and a couple of homegrown players who could do a job, but won't really be ready until the following season. Srbeny, Morris, Thompson, Cantwell will probably all go out on loan if we go up, with Passlack, Pinto, McGovern, Oliveira, Marshall departing for good. Inbound I'd expect 1-2 strikers, a winger, a DM, a fullback and a goalkeeper.
