A non-fatal stabbing in Surrey is being treated as a terrorism incident by police.

Officers were called to reports of a man acting aggressively and shouting racist comments while carrying a baseball bat and a knife in Stanwell at 10.30pm on Saturday night. Several nearby vehicles were damaged.

Shortly afterwards, police received reports that a man had been stabbed - and detectives believe the same suspect is behind both incidents.

Armed police urgently began searching for the suspect, and a 50-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and racially aggravated public order.

So here we are again, is it terrorism?

It seems a word that is being used way to often, and put's fear into people.

If they can investigate extremist muslim terrorism then why not far right. For far too long, these cases have been treated as isolated incidents without delving deeper to find the causes that link them. Hopefully what happened on Friday will be a game-changer so these are investigated and through the counter-terrorism unit they can find the links to broader issues below the surface of these lunatics who turn radical, something the average police dept can't.

They've been focusing on far right terrorism for quite a few years. Perhaps the lack of large scale arrests despite that tells a story in itself.

There was more arrests for far right terrorism than any other segment in the U.K. last year.

The same could be said before 9/11 or to a certain extent 7/7. Time will tell, but I'm glad the Counter-terrorism team is now involving themselves in cases which in past they may not have. No half-measures, we have to trust them in what they say...

Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, head of counter-terrorism policing, said: "Whilst this investigation is still in its infancy, it has hallmarks of a terror event, inspired by the far right, and therefore it has been declared a terrorism incident.

"This allows us to use all of the specialist capabilities available to establish the full circumstances of this attack.

"Police are committed to tackling all forms of toxic extremist ideology, which has the potential to threaten public safety and security."

It’s entirely possible that’s there’s a loose knit international network of far right headcases. At this time I doubt they’re as organised and certainly not as well financed as The Islamic league of loonies though.

that's a tough call. a man going out with a knife and a baseball bat, sounds about most inner cities.

How many have been stabbed this year alone in London? How many of those come under your proposed terrorism rule?

Spot on. I was listening to someone in an organisation linked to PREVENT (forget the name but they work with them). They said that Islamic terrorism is the largest, but Far Right terrorism is the fastest growing.

You need to read the whole article. The bloke did more than that. None of us are knowledgeable enough to pick and choose. And I have to trust the chief of the counter-terrorism police in what he's saying.

Wouldn’t surprise me mate. The former is feeding the latter.

Problem is this is what the Islamic fundamentalist fruit cakes want. Their version of what the Koran says tells them that there will be a great war with the infidels, which they will win.

So, these guys are playing into their hands. Giving them what they actually want.

Aye and the bloke on Friday will become the poster-boy for them. Especially when they pick out the stuff about the crusades he talks about. If only we could put them ALL on an island and let them blow each other up <laugh>

Yet there was a long running argument claiming I was wrong for suggesting the focus.
The percentages for last year are skewed due to a fall in overall arrests compared to previous years after the bombings. The main point about 'large scale' still stands.
