Importance at the time depends on the club and the current situation. For us it’s right that we focus on the premiership and the CL. These will be the two most important competitions FOR US. But for most of the rest of the football world , the cl and the premiership title are not. Tell that to Wolves. Do they think that the FA cup is less important than the CL? We prioritise the CL and the premiership because of our current position and our ability to win them. But we have to be careful that doing this we will be left with not winning any of the other competitions unless we think we’ve got a much stronger squad.
actually no. the cl will be juve semi and Barca in final according to all bookies. if city can beat both fair enough.... but the prem for them is beat 8 teams and only one is decent. they can walk prem but won't walk cl.
I already said that throwing a game would be awful but there’s a giant leap from that to our squad depth not being good enough!! If you are happy aiming for 3rd every season then good for you. Personally, if someone had told me that if we lower the chance of winning in two competitions to increase the chance in the two biggest of all - I’d take it. Every single time. If I were Watford for example, who increased their chance in the cup but reduced their chance in the league (it was not too high anyway) - I’d applaud the prioritisation of the FA cup. It’s relative to who you support and what your realistic chances are in the first place.
considering we are already saying the games are catching up with city who have a better and bigger squad than us, do we prioritize the league and cl or should we have gone for the fa cup and risked ****ing them all up?
Or LFC in final. It looks increasingly likely that we will be the team left to thwart the unprecedented and mythical quadruple
Have just posted similar - it’s relative to your team and situation - if we were mid table, I’d be furious if we de prioritised the cup over the league. But we weren’t. Of course prioritisation means that you might get nothing. There’s always that risk. Doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t still do it.
It’s one thing putting two or three key players on the bench and another putting out a team that’s certain to be put out of the competition at an early stage. No one can tell me that the teams we put out for the league and fa cups had any chance whatsoever of progressing any further. It is as if we wanted to go out early rather than late.
You basically threw the FA Cup this season, and the squad not really being good enough doesn't really wash when you've still got one of the biggest and most expensive in the league. I agree about it being relative to who you support (though a lot of smaller clubs do the same) but the point is like Poch at Spurs if you're going to do that you need to make sure you actually win something eventually. Would FA Cup and 3rd be worse than finishing a close 2nd? Hypothetical I know but getting that first trophy as a team could do wonders going forward, unlike Spurs as well you've actually got a decent chance of keeping most of your players if you start winning a few pots.
sorry didn't realize we are 2nd in league and could go onto win the title and in quarter finals of cl. (made final last year) damn if only we had gone for that fa cup, ffs!!
Hold on. If I recall, in the league cup we got drawn against Chelsea who were in form at the time and also put out a strong team they only won because of a worldy by Hazard. Against Wolves, we were riddled with injuries. Big ones......and we had players who had played 3 games a week for a couple of weeks over Christmas. Wolves were brilliant on the day too. I actually think that against Wolves we had very little option.
With respect. That’s b0llocks. We had no RB....our only fit first choice defenders had played every game throughout the festive period and ifone to were get injured, we’d of been screwed. The team was weak, yes but we had to rest players or risk injury (see Harry Kane) But as a rival fan from a team that would give their right arm for any cup, I understand your opinion.
If you want evidence of what overplaying your first team does to players after the festive period, take a good long look at Spurs. I rest my case
You do know we lost to Wolves too dont you ? The squad that utd have has massively underperformed this season imho I think comparing results how you are doing does not really indicate which squad is better. Eg our first 11 drew with their second string 10 (with a few 1st teamers in there) and even I dont think their second eleven better than our first 11. We are definitely perfoming better in the league, we are performing the same in CL, went out to the same team in the FA - though utd went further and neither of us tried in CC.
Totally agree with you and MITO on this in principle The problem is we dont have a squad big enough to compete on all four fronts Had utd drawn wolves when we did would the result have been the same If we had played lower league competition early on would we have progressed further? I personally think we would have gone out and embarrased ourselves cause of the attitude that MITO keeps detailing. To me a cup is a cup but unless you are City no team has the depth to fight on all fronts Then you add the luck of the draws that city have had and that has made the task a bot easier for the only squad which can cope. Its weird Yes i know we got Porto but getting Bayern was not an easy game for once I would say we made it look easy with a fantastic second half display. Also you cannot reasonably argue our group was easy in CL, we got beat by Chelsea when Hazard had his purple patch for the season.
our first 11 lol, so matip instead of gomez then hmmm. and our backup is ****e compared to theirs, and so is midfield.
Unpopular opinion and i am not saying i think it will happen but who would we want to win if it was a Utd City final with Utd having to stop the quad
no contest rip ffs. we want the scum to lose everything, you forgotten their opinions on who they want to win the title already?
