With Sunderland & Pompey both winning today, we can safely say that’s our automatic promotion chances done.

The last 8 games are going to be weird - the Phoney War before the Play Offs.

Losing Grant in January & not replacing him has done for us.

Nope.

Lack of goals will be our undoing in the play offs. It’s so predictable it’s laughable.

We will lose 1-0 on aggregate.

 

Perhaps it's time to look at Fosu as Grant's replacement rather than Parker, last year's Fosu would make an excellent replacement up top.

 

Fosu is really poor, as is Igor and Parker. We are going to regret Grant leaving.

 

Roland won't regret it though. He doesn't want promotion.

 

Taylor has looked a different player since Grant left.

 

We have scored 9 goals in our last 10 league games - many of those against poor sides. That’s where our downfall will be.

 

Does Taylor's booking today mean a ban?

from what I have heard there was a time limit (or a game limit) on the 10th yellow card meaning a 2 game ban, and that limit expired on Tuesday evening in the Burton match at the Valley.
Taylor will now need another 4 yellow cards before he gets a suspension.

 

Shouldn't take him long.

 

The play-offs are a lottery. There is no reason why we cannot go up.

 

I find myself in agreement with Royston on this point (rare, but not unheard of).

There was not much of a lottery about the way Shrewsbury eased past us last season.
Charlton were the only play-off semi-finalists not even to score a goal.
We are having a better season, but our recent low goal scoring is a major concern in my view.

Fosu is not consistent, Bauer is doing his defending job but not chipping in with his usual handful of goals.
Reeves has bagged a few, but Vetokele and Parker are frankly embarrassing.

If we must rely almost entirely on Lyle Taylor there is a big risk that things could go wrong.
One flash of anger and he could pick up a straight red card. Or (God forbid) he gets injured - and we are screwed.

The Play Off semis tend to be tense, tight and niggly affairs. I remember going to our first once back in 1987, a midweek game away at Ipswich which we drew from memory 0-0. Old school hooliganism that night and the coins were flying at us in the away end.

I agree that a lack of firepower will be our weak point when it comes to the crunch. We get very few goals from the midfield - I believe it’s only 7 in the league all season.

 

If Sunderland end up in the play-offs they will not go up. They draw too many games.
