We were slowly improving. We had no reason. There was as much reason in sacking Ollie as there was in sacking Warnock after promotion. I despair. Actually, maybe we should have just tried to hire Mac as Ollie's tactician.
I never wanted NW sacked. I still believe he would have kept us up and even if he didn't we wouldn't have spent as much.
Slowly we were. He managed to get quite a few more points one season on the other. I regretted it at the time. Regretting it even more now. There was a much better feel at the club, too.
Correct me if I'm wrong. Things better under Ollie: The feel at the club / it feeling like it was our QPR again Man management / player effort Feeling that we're competitive in most games Things better under Mac: Better post match interviews / interaction with media Anyone want to add to the list? Note: Ollie's last league position was the same as we're in now.
We got 53 points in 2016-17 and 56 in 2017-18. We finished higher up the league, but only because there were more even ****ter teams than us. Ollie was a **** manager. MacLaren doesn’t seem any better at the moment. This team has stood still for 4 seasons now. The club has cut costs and has to cut more. League One is only a matter of time in my view. It might be quite fun, my Sunderland mate is loving it.
My main point here really is this: Ollie had gotten us pretty stable, with better performances, better feel for fans and players and with gradual, perhaps slow improvements. But he was pretty much our best option available. I thought no one would take the job here. Step in the Mac. Worst start in years, got us playing quite well then he's gone to ****. And I believe that's because he can't manage people. So, I'm not saying Ollie would have been magic compared to Mac. I just think, why have we changed? Did we not value stability? Did we not value the good vibes? Let's face it, did anyone think Mac was gonna make QPR feel like proper QPR?
Before Xmas we was flying & since new year it’s gone tits up, can’t explain it what’s gone wrong? Answers on a stamp
Why did we sack Olly ? ‘Cos he was ****ing useless as a manager with his constant changing the side and bizarre rants and goading of fans (both his own and opposing). I’ll always love him as a player but he wasn’t much cop as a manager, that’s for sure.
I'd say we've continued the downward trend albeit at a slower rate. Does seem that League One is just a matter of time particular if need to keep reducing costs.
We sacked Ollie because it was clear he was leading us nowhere, it’s also clear his replacement is moving in the same direction
Why on earth didn't we tie down Warnock back at the end of 2015... I'm somewhat split on the manager front. After enduring last night, it would be hard to put up much of a defence for McClaren. However, I'm very sceptical that another change of manager will solve much. On the other hand, if we could get someone really decent in [David Wagner would be my top choice] at the end of the season, I can't see what harm it would do, and we could improve. I'd be disappointed if we changed for someone mediocre...
Fully agree with everything you've said. I don't think there are many QPR fans who feel that things could have been so much better if we'd kept or even re-signed Warnock in 2015. I personally blame old Tony for most of this crap. He's made a right pigs ear of things here. Warnock wasn't the right sort for him, and I'm not sure how Warnock would have liked Tony's transfer ideas.
I think we needed a change - however whilst Ollie had good man management skills in getting the best out of players, I think that McLaren has helped the youngsters hence the number out on loan. Like Ollie before him, he is still a victim of the financial mess of previous two managers and his loanees being out injured hasn't helped. And in my opinion I don't think Ollie would have had so may out on loan I was expecting a win last night and after a long travel in car I was disappointed to read on BBC the defeat, and comments on hear about the lack of heart shown from the players.. At the end of the day, supporting QPR is a roller coaster ride...we just have to hang on for 4 more wins and see where that takes us. There will be a rebuild in the summer - McLaren didn't have a January window in which to bring anyone in so lets give him a bit more time to see of he can sort the mess out. With chairman also posting a comment it will be interesting to see player response in next game
These same players and this same manager had a run earlier in the season of 11 games of which we only lost two, and we were in seventh place and chasing down a playoff spot. I just don’t understand what has happened since, but it’s not only down to McClaren, that’s for sure. When Ollie was here, there were so many threads filled with posts slating him, wishing he was gone. Now that he’s gone it’s easy to forget that.
