Not a scientific poll by any means but just got in from a few beers with the lads in Chester and chatted about the game and the team to quite a few fellow Cestrian Mackems and the consensus of opinion is that Asamoahs popularity is definately on the fall. 90% of the lads wouldnt be too disappointed if he had left in August (as long as he was replaced) and 100% think he will be off in January. If Bendtner gets off to a decent start, Gyan will be moved on IMO. Discuss?
I can only speak for myself and he's still as popular as ever with me. Gyan is a terrific talent IMO. They say there's no smoke without fire, there's certainly a lot of smoke right now with regards to Gyan wanting out. I'm becoming ever more resigned to this possibility. I'm sure he'll know he's not a fans favorite anymore, and i can see him going in january. I'll be gutted to see him go. Cest, you say that Gyan will be moved on should Bendtner have a decent start. To me, that doesn't really add up. Bendtner is a loan signing only. Should Gyan move on, we could be looking for a minimum of 2 top class strikers? One of which may be Bendtner. There's really not that many top class strikers out there available to Sunderland. If Bendtner is to have a great start, Gyan will be a large part of that. I feel like Sunderland fans are alienating Gyan currently, which i somewhat resent.
I agree with the sentiment that the fans are pushing Gyan out a wee bit, but if the lads hearts not on the shirt what can you expect? I'm with you in that I agree he's a great talent and I'll be sad if he does go, I think a lot will depend on his form and the teams between here and January, but I also buy into the no smoke without fire line. Gyan is not irreplaceable, if the worst comes of it, Pav & Cisse could replace him adequately, what would be very difficult to replace would be his star quality and prescence, Asa is easily the most famous player at the club, and I'm sure more people are aware of SAFC purely because he plays here. I don't want him to go, but I fear he will.
This is not a new thing for me... So sticking with what iv'e been saying for many months, whilst then i was on a real minority... Bruce is over reliant on him, and we dn't have the players or the tactics to suit his style of play. Could be a real gem for the right team, but that team ain't us.
The way he's been playing reminds .of bent last season. Doesn't appear to be enjoying himself and is not playing for the team. Im starting to think he did try to engineer a move during the window then denied this when time ran out to save face. Afterall footballers tend to mirror politicians when it comes to honesty. If he's unhappy get rid, don't want him here. If I'm wrong and just being paranoid, my apologies Mr Gyan.
I don't like to say this, but i agree with this wholeheartedly. Good comment. As much as i love Asa as a footballer, if we're not going to play to his style and have players around him on his wavelength we may as well just sell him. I had this vision back when we had Welbeck and Bent as well as Gyan that we'd bring in N'Zogbia or someone of his ilk and we'd go on to be a dynamic, exciting team full of goals and invention and unpredictability. It would appear Bruce is going to revert to PL type and turn us into a typical super direct with long balls and knock downs. Yawn. Well, as long as we're successful at it i'm sure the points will make me happy. I'm sure we all felt we were on the cusp of something brillaint and really making our mark on the PL and having a memorable PL team, i feel like that's slipping/slipped away.
I could well be wrong but i don't think his heart is any more or less 'in' the shirt than it has been at any other time. If Manchester United came in for him the transfer request would be submitted in a nanosecond, but i've always felt that's the case. Personally, i think he's grown frustrated at our style and/or quality of football. You can see this in his body language and his reactions to certain on-field happenings (happenings?). He thinks he's better than that, and i agree with him. Lets face it, if Bruce had brought in N'Zogbia and Welbeck this summer (i know neither were REALLY available to us, before anyone would like to correct me), would Gyan be wanting out now? Of course he wouldn't. So, like i said, i think he's become frustrated rather than anything more serious than that. That being said, that could still be enough for him to want out. I'd prefer for us to play much better and much more successful football to get him back on side, maybe bringing in an excellent left winger during january to put a smile on his face.
well i think we will see if he wants to be here or not, when he scores a goal, if he does his dance he is happy and always has been if not he isnt happy and wants away.. i pesonaly think that he is just going through a dry spell and a goal will do wonders for him!! he might look like he doesnt give a **** but that is just his style, he isnt the type of player that looks like he will graft his arse off..
The well known saying 'A week is a long time in politics' can certainly be equated to footbal also. The simple reason why he is not popular at the moment is because he has been out of sorts and not scoring...All he needs is to re-gain his form and score a few goals and he would be as popular as ever.
Disappointed in brucie saying NO offers came in for him. IF SB wants him he should have stated that fact and told agents other teams etc to go away in jerky movements. Brucie didnt so suggests he will be away. Like KPTG said, gyan is a terrific talent and hopefully with different tactics and Bendtners input things may change.
bruce was just stating facts mate!! he clearly wants him as he is playing him even tho he isnt in good form!! gyan will come good again, but for me he is playing good anyway just hasnt found the back of the net yet..
Let's hope Asa and Nicklas hit it of today, regardless of result. If we can see some link up link Gyan had with Welbeck before the injuries hit last season, then i reckon in a few weeks time, with them both amongst the goals, all this talk will be forgotten. Gyan's a wonderful character, we all wanna see that back both in his play, and around the place.
Gyan is not a prolific goal scorer and probably never will be but, he is a grafter and that graft has disappeared from his game lately which is why I think he does not want to be here. I said in August that I'd be surprised if he was still a Sunderland player by the end of the next window and that still stands for me. If SB can get Gyan back to playing like he did last season then happy days but. We now know he wants away so when he goes in January there will be no excuse as was with Bent that, they didn't know and didn't have enough time to sort a replacement. Mind you saying that they knew Bent wanted away in August last year but still did nothing about it so whose door does that fall at Bruces, Quinns or Shorts?
The Journal says he will not play today http://www.journallive.co.uk/safc/safc-news/2011/09/10/i-will-make-asamoah-gyan-smile-says-bruce-61634-29395436/ Shame like, I was looking forward to seeing him and Bendtner play.
If he does want away, which is unconfirmed but does seem likely, then the simple thing is to sell him for enough to buy Demba Cisse. Could be that the Bendtner signing kicks him into gear, he did love it here initially, but you do wonder if it was a lot to do with the Ghana reunion thing.
Very possible mate but, for what he is getting paid you'd think he'd just get on with it and play a blinder in preparation for a possible move. This would benefit him if he does want away and us cash wise, it is a pity as I think he could be a very good player for us we saw glimpses last season and honestly thought that this season he would knock 15 in no problem with the new additions.
Still early doors mate, he looked unfit when he came back first game or 2, maybe it's literally just that and we're jumping the gun. Facts are, he's here, he's a talented player and a cracking personality, if him and Bendtner click, they could easy get 12-15 each, which would surely mean a good season for us. Guess we have to wait and see over the next few weeks.
Think that is the problem mate we don't have the next few weeks we need them to do it now, a couple of bad results not counting todays and we are in the clarts and into October. Agree 12 - 15 each would be great add that to the same amount from midfield (optimistic I know) and it's happy days for everyone.
