The death penalty is utterly ineffective and ridiculously expensive. I'd rather not give the Tories a license to kill more British citizens, anyway. Our system isn't too lenient, it's too ineffective.
She's not dead, she's cursed. That's why nobody wants to get rid of her. Who wants to hold the Brexit poisoned chalice?
Gove does, but while the Tories may see him as good enough to lead the country they sure as hell don't see him as good enough to lead the party...
I'd have to disagree with you on that one letting a terrorist live in prison is far more expensive than the hanging or electric chair ...on second thoughts the price of electric these days you might be right
Solar panels! Or perhaps we should follow the lead of our lovely friends in Saudi and perform public stonings or hanging. Cost effective.
There have been lots of studies about it and the death penalty is a lot more expensive in somewhere like the US, for example. This is a quote from a summary: "Studies of the California death penalty system, the largest in the US, have revealed that a death sentence costs at least 18 times as much as a sentence of life without parole would cost."
The grey suits of the 1922 committee with sit her down tonight, buy her a couple of G&T's and say 'sign here', regrettably we have decided to accept your resignation, that is how the Tory party works.
I dont get that at all how can looking after a prisoner for life be cheaper than 50000 volts or a hanging please enlighten me on that one
It's not that simple, nor should it be. If we're going to kill people, then we need to get the right ones. Anyone fancy trusting their life to our justice system? I don't.
Pretty sure a prison will make a fair bit more from cheap labour over several years than a one off lethal injection.
They use an injection of lethal drugs that often don't work, incarnation, and reincarnation often overlap.
I’m sure all those unbiased “independent” studies really dug deep I nto those balance sheets. I mean I’m sure it’s a complete accident that the US has 25% of the worlds prison population and it is in no way motivated by money.
Court costs are much, much higher and juries are less likely to give a verdict that results in someone's death. The investigations cost more and those found guilty are more likely to be overturned and go through tons of challenges. Unless we fancy recreating Hang 'Em High, this is what would happen over here, too.
