It is quite interesting to read the match reports from various sources. Without exception they are saying that the ref was wrong over the first goal. It must be difficult to be in such a place with all the noise going on, but it is so annoying when a minute can change the whole course of a game.

Probably didn't help that he was booed off at HT.

At least Aguero didn’t score against us for once!

  5. We'd never ever know who your "second" team is <rofl> in case it had escaped your notice we have a much bigger game next week. For me avoidance of yellows and injuries was the priority

I don't think it has anything to do with me having a soft spot for Liverpool Dan. The starting 11 had damage limitation written all over it - it was as if to say 'we know we're going to lose anyway, so no point in risking our best players'. If you go out onto a football pitch then you do it to try and win - end of story.

Damage limitation? Probably, but goal difference could cost the club quite a lot of money at the end of the season. I think the plan was to try and stop City scoring, and then hit them on the break, which if successful would give us a win.

  9. Fair enough - personally I'm happy with saving them for next week. We got hammered at Anfield and needed to avoid it today to keep up confidence. Thought we did it and hopefully they will be ready on Saturday - it's all that matters now

Ignore it Dan, I'm just being grouchy about us losing again to one of the top clubs. I will only feel that we have really 'arrived' as a Premiership club when we have done something other than damage limitation at Man. City, Liverpool or Man. Utd. For some reason we appear to be more up for it when visiting the top London clubs. I don't like fielding 'reduced' sides, whatever the circumstances.

It guess it can’t go both ways. There are those that moan about weakened teams for the cup and perhaps part of our selection yesterday was to prioritise the cup now we’re at the QF stage. Probably the first team/manager to do that this season so far.

I think the team was well picked and good tactics. In fact I can imagine a similar system if we play them again in the cup.

Many other teams have won playing deep and hitting on the break. Squeezing the life out of them and getting them frustrated is maybe the only way we have a chance to win.

I tend to agree.. I was dubious when I saw the team.. But we played too plan until the 'goal'.. When unsurprisingly we unravelled.. The only question is.. If we had started with TD and Delo.. Might we have had more success. The reserve players did well though.. Apart perhaps from the forwards who were feeding off the odd knock forward

Sensible tactics, poorly executed when we had the ball, alas, otherwise we would have been more potent going forward. We saw what happens when we play our usual game against Liverpool. We could not afford another five goal+ mauling.

I think we have a genuine chance to beat Arsenal and Chelsea, Man U have upped their game so they will be more dangerous.

I am not impressed about the line up. Nor the result. White flag stuff.
