Maybe, especially if your team has never been to Wembley. But if you’ve been once for a special occasion - which is what Wembley should always be about imo - I don’t think you’d especially want to go again for a League game.

I absolutely understand why Spurs fans don’t want to schlepp all the way out there. It will be interesting to see if they can fill the new place; West Ham have mostly filled the London Taxpayers Stadium I think? but I think they’ve done that by keeping prices really low.

I think your capacity was around 58k in the 60's so any 70k crowds would have been well before then.

Nope, we could hold over 60,000 we’ll into the 60’s.

I think it was in the early 60's though that they started adding seating which drastically brought down the capacity.

You are right. Spurs last 60k + crowd was 1963.

Late 60’s when they added more seating. 68/69 ish.

Tbf, I don’t think it ever held 70,000 back then. But 60,000 I’ve definitely seen.

I think Chelsea were the last club to get a 70k attendance for a home fixture in England (1964) for 40 years until United expanded to 76k on 2007.

I guess the Valley held more than 70k but only got those crowds for Who concerts

    1962 according to Wiki.

In 1962, 2,600 seats were fitted at the back of the South Stand (on Park Lane), followed the next year by 3,500 seats at the North (Paxton Road) Stand, which was further extended in 1968 to link up with the West Stand to give a further 1,400 seats.[14] The South and West stands were linked in 1973 that added further seats, but the capacity of the ground dropped overall as seats replaced standing terraces.

I only remember the late 60’s addition. But the capacity would have still been over 60,000 before that change anyway.

I’m not sure of the absolute capacity. There was no health and safety back then and they only counted what came through the turnstiles. But it was relatively easy to sneak in without paying back then, with a little help from your mates.

Agree that if you had a 57k gate v United in 64, crowd could be 60k

Chelsea (and Ken Bates in particular) notorious for lying about attendances. Eddie Barnet box office manager regularly knocked 2k+ off gate and cash went upstairs

I can’t see where it says that in your link. And unless they got it wrong I can remember 60,000 crowds later than that.

    No. I’m saying I don’t recall a crowd that large. 60,000 yes.,
