14 weeks, a lifetime ban and his family having to move out their house because of threats of reprisals, all for a punch my 11 yr old would be embarrassed to throw.

As an antidote to WJs spleen venting, just for balance:

    1. The club have got to be punished because
      1. Steward should have done his job so wasn't being managed.
      2. Player insurance premiums will rocket as insurers worry about star players being hurt or worse.
      3. Will the EFL/FA compensate for a ref or player being out of action for months
      4. H&S at work act will be used by councils
    2. The days of fencing may have to come back if nothing is done and this was 3 separate incidents at 3 separate clubs
    3. Safe Standing areas may go backwards by years
    4. WJ correct in thinking penalty for the perpetrator should be exactly the same as if in the pub, but we know the law is acted upon differently depending on the judge, but hey ho let the law sort it out

THey have that option open to then, Mike. What I'm trying to say is that an assault on the field, no matter if it's a fan or player, should be acted on in the same way that it would be in a pub, shopping mall, or wherever. Currently players get off & it's kept 'within football'. Why? Because it's part of the game & they get carried away? So why is a fan not offered the same protection by the football authorities? After all, they go through the wringer more than the individual players. So either fans & players should be dealt with 'in house', or fans & players alike should be handed over to the police to pursue justice. So if the result is a stiff prison sentence for all, then I'm up for it.

It really rankles with me that players get away with violence by giving them a wee holiday. Cantona should have got the jail. Why didn't he? Same for Keane - he even confessed to it! Lots of examples. Yet if a fan loses it (and we all do at some point), and even attempts to commit violence, there's a right old hullabaloo calling for him to be hanged & the club deducted a squillion points. Too much privilege in this game. Wonder what would have happened if one of these invaders was hanging on to a prawn sandwich & a glass of champagne? I can imagine .....

Btw, slightly off the point, but my interpretation of the incident in Scotland was that the fan simply ran on to kick the ball away to prevent the throw-in. It was the player that turned it into a confrontation. Perhaps someone could put me right if I have indeed misinterpreted this.

1.1 Disagree. As far as I understand it, all stewarding & security procedures were followed by all clubs. Heard on the radio that the process for handling these guys is to leave them to it & get them when they're leaving the pitch. Apparently it simply makes it more of a crowd-pleasing spectacle if stewards chase & fall, & they want to kill the 'entertainment' aspect of it. Personally, I'm make it mandatory for them to be tasered, whether they surrender or not.
    1.2, & 1.3. Don't care. Think 1.3 is answered by 1.2, right enough.

    2. Believe they successfully us netting rather than fences overseas. Not 100% effective, but slows an invader down sufficiently to nail him before he gets to the pitch.

    3. Why? If he's standing, he's only got a one pace start.

This is probably the most attacking unit the U23s have fielded this season so hope it works. Oh and WJ you are wrong about the stewards otherwise they wouldnt be licenced by the council or police and imagine if a player got knifed but allowed onto the pitch...

I wonder what would have happened if a Man City fan had run on the pitch and knocked that cowardly **** Roy Keane out after he assaulted Alfie Haaland trying to end his career in the process

Jack Clarke is on fire tonight along with young Boguts who is running the show and driving Leeds forward. He has just created a superb opening for Steven who slots home 1-0 Leeds HT

I've loved having the chance to see a bit of the U23s this year, the move for the goal had Bielsa-ball written all over it, great to watch.

I was thinking before we scored, if I lived locally I'd be looking forward to watching the development squad nearly as much as the first team. There are good times ahead with these lads coming through.
