No because I said it before Bobby didn't I and slanging matches don't really help the situation do they? Also some were saying on this website that Kane coming off the bench at Tranmere was a stupid decision.
You mean where I demonstrated how nonsensical such comparisons are due to... a.) Man Utd winning the league with van Nistelrooy in the team b.) van Nistelrooy being shipped out due to a falling out with Ferguson and not for tactical reasons c.) Man Utd happened to have another striker by the name of Wayne Rooney at the time ...then yes, it's not helpful to the situation to have your nonsensical argument dismantled with these things known as "facts"
I don't for one second think that it would be a good idea to sell HK. However, the mousers sold both Suarez and Couthinho and used the money to strengthen where the had to, keeper and central defence, and it appears to have done them no harm.
SIGH. We are talking about what's best for Spurs aren't we? Did you see my copy and paste earlier "No Kane" No problem?
They sold a 20+ goals a seasons striker which is the theory if dgc. As for rooney and ronaldo as replacements, they were hardly prolific and world class. Rooney had 9, 11 and 16 goals. Ronaldo has 4,5 and 9 Sure i made a mistake on the 03 season but point is still valid. The sale of the star striker didnt impede united at all and strengthened them
The Suarez money was not spent strengthening the team, as here's what it was spent on Rickie Lambert Adam Lallana Emre Can Lazar Markovic Dejan Lovren Divock Origi Alberto Moreno Mario Balotelli For some reason Brendan Rodgers kept his lip buttoned and didn't suggest that, having spent over £100m, they should be challenging for the league - not finishing sixth... The fact is that there's been two occasions in our recent history where we've had significant windfalls from player sales, Keane/Berbatov in 2008 and Bale in 2013, and how did reinvesting all that money work out for us? In both cases it led to poor results, a managerial sacking, and the team having to be reassembled by the new manager in subsequent transfer windows while also trying to get rid of various signings who failed to deliver.
A) not in his last 3 seasons. They won 3 straight after B) its still the star striker leaving C) son has more goals than rooney in his last 3 seasons (counting current campaign) and Alli has more than ronaldo (Pl goals im looking at, havent looked at cup before hbic goes besmirching my name again)
For the life of me, I can't see any Spurs fan advocating the sale of HK. The problem is that we overplay certain individuals. They get injured and then we do something different which takes teams a while to suss out. Without him for a few weeks is no problem. Without him for keeps is a different matter. It's part of the "We must buy lots of new players" argument. Yes, options would be great.....if MP actually used them. It took him over 2 seasons to use Sissoko properly. After we bought Davies and Trippier, it took over a season to get them up to any level. The same with Llorente and now Lucas. Yes, fitness but we don't press like we used to and playing individuals who are fit above those carrying significant injuries has to be an improvement, doesn't it? We killed whatever Vinnie had, possibly Big Kev too. We need to use the squad better to be less predictable and suffer less injuries. Any actions without that is going to be wasted.
I think one, maximum two per summer window whilst moving on the same number is enough to freshen the squad but keeping continuity. I don't like wholesale changes. Forget the winter window unless there are obvious long term injury problems that need addressing.
If we'd topped up central midfield last summer, I'd agree. I see a bit more being needed this summer. There are players whose injury records or conract situations or lack of form mean they could be moved on and replaced - including all of the full backs, Lamela, Lucas (if we're going to continue to ignore him), Toby, Christian Eriksen, maybe Hugo? In the early MP years, we bought 4 or 5 players. That may be necessary again.
Sell Harry Kane and sack Poch. What a time to be alive for a Spurs fan. By all means, both can come in for fair criticism, no one is exempt from it but the notion of getting rid of both as if that'll do us any good... I mean... Just... ****... No words.
In 2005/6 Rooney scored 16 in 36, which is a shade under 1 in 2 - or to put it another way, five goals different from van Nistelrooy's league tally that season The fact that Man Utd had a striker capable of scoring goals on the books other than van Nistelrooy kills any comparison between their situation in 2005/6 and Spurs' current one dead, and that's before the parts where you thought nobody noticed them winning the league with him in the side or his departure being less for tactical reasons and more because nobody was bigger than Man Utd...other than that bacon-faced blowhard in the dugout Also, there's one other area where any attempt to draw a comparison between the two situations completely fails: Man Utd didn't use the van Nistelrooy money to invest in the squad, as Michael Carrick was the only signing they made that season - the real investment came before they sold him, six months before in fact, with the arrivals of Vidic and Evra the previous January So other than that, solid comparison. Hell, I didn't even have to mention they also had Saha in the squad... Oh great, I'm going to be showing up in a Transfer Tavern article now...
Five matches is far too little data to draw conclusions. Try tossing a coin 50 times. You will almost certainly get at least five heads in a row. You do agree that such a sequence tells you exactly nothing.
They would certainly seem strange to you. I suspect he gets about two thirds of his decisions right. Measuring that is close to impossible but anything above about 60% is very good.
It is perfectly possible that we could sell Kane and do what Liverpool did. But they hardly sold those two out of choice. We don't know how much better they would have done if they had hung on to them. They've not won the PL have they?
The winter window has its benefits, but they're niche benefits as January isn't a seller's market: mainly players with six months on their contracts, players peed off at lack of playing time, or prospects where we can agree a buy-and-loan-back deal We're not going to see a repeat of the January window of 2009 where we signed Palacios and re-signed Keane, Defoe and Chimbonda - but more importantly, I hope we don't need a January window where we have to fix the mistakes made the previous summer
We have 8 matches left to make top 4 Power and there's NOTHING to tell me in the last 4 league matches that anything is going to improve unless we take a desperate measure. With flipping a coin you are talking about the law of averages, something over which there is no control. We DO have control over what we do, over our own destiny in this case.
Depends if they had bought vvd or alisson. If not arguably no (they been perennially 4th or below) with him in the side. Yup they were forced sales but everyone can see since coutinho went and they bought vvd and alisson they are a far better side. Points wise and where they are in the league.
