Aribo is the sort of player you could build a Championship team around as a newly promoted club.

Even the notion of this at Charlton under this owner is laughable. Think about it - Aribo staying this summer & we recruit players around him for Aston Villa away in August.

 

We need to get into the Championship and out of L1 this season because we don't want to be giving Millwall 6 points next season in L1.

Next season we will be saving a large amount on the salaries of Reeves, Marshall, Vetokele, Fosu, Bauer. The club should offer Aribo a salary he can’t refuse. We all know he will be sold anyway. That way RD can get a higher fee when he is sold.

I see your reasoning DickPlumb, but RD won't re-invest any of the money from the sale of Aribo in the summer even if JA does accept a new contract now.

I don't subscribe to the notion as some do (not you necessarily) that it's less damaging for the Club if fans accept that RD continues to pocket all the money from selling players, as this at least keeps the old miser quiet, so he doesn't get even more vindictive.

I don't see that Aribo walking away for free is any worse than him signing a contract now, and Roland pocketing £3 million for him in the summer.
Charlton Athletic loses either way. And RD getting vindictive is not something that scares me. If the guy wants to really show off what a vengeful old b*stard he is, then so be it. He can't be allowed to bully Charlton fans by threatening harm to the Club out of spite (even by implication).

 

I am not expecting RD to release any funds for signings. But it does free up the player budget to bring in any decent free transfers.
