Well that was ****ing woeful. Some very suspect decisions from Emery tonight too. Taking Iwobi and Aubameyang off and leaving Mkhitaryan at RB ? No wonder we didn't have any out ball in the last 30 mins. We just invited that 3rd goal.
Totally agree like a bunch of headless chickens in that second half, poor tactics from us as well,Emery needs to shoulder a lot of the blame for that.
Unai "Europa League Specialist" Emery. My arse. looked like he had no idea how to manage an away european tie. ugh, very annoyed at today.
Don't have to be Einstein, to surmise that this joker Emery will not win anything with this team! He is totally bereft of ideas!
this only compounds the misery - that we are playing United at the weekend and now probably will be extremely tired.
We were ****ing gash tonight. And Emery didn't help with some bizarre tactical decisions and substitutions.
Yeh, I wish we'd played you midweek after your game with Spurs by the looks of it. I hate it when a big oppo team play poorly before our game, you have no idea how strong they'll be come the game.
What the f--k was Monreal doing down the far end of the pitch taking a throw in with minutes to go,and then they go down the other end and score.
Emery and the players will be expecting a reaction after that **** show. The atmosphere should be great too and both teams will be up for it. Hoping it springs us into action for Sunday.
You would expect so They now have a massive point to prove after putting in that performance tonight.
Auba showed more aggression at being subbed than during the whole time he was on the pitch, cant see him starting Sunday.
How can our team be so different, the first 35 minutes it looked as if a 3-0 score line would be well and truly justified, Yet, we then make some headless tackles, full well knowing European ref's are little Hitlers. Down to 10 men we are clueless, capitulate into some sort of Division 2 team, unbelievable! In fact that's disrespectful to Div 2 teams! Monreal should have been the first to be dragged after 50 mins, our left side was in tatters. Don't even talk about injuries..Man Utd down to it's bare bones apparently yet stil......
Spurs fan in peace...if that's possible. My 2 cents are that your team still lacks any proper leaders out on the pitch. It's something we moan about a lot too as Hugo isn't a natural captain but then players like Kane, Vertonghen, Dier and even Rose to some extent are able to get the others fired up or calm them down at key moments. Sokratis has looked like a leader in an otherwise shambolic back line this season and his departure meant that you didn't have anyone else out there giving the team that psychological boost that is so often needed in these tricky european away ties. I'm sure Spurs fans across the land are mocking you for losing to a mid-table French team, conveniently forgetting that we went out to a mid-table Belgian side 2 years ago. Like Rennes tonight, Gent played with no fear and no pressure, flopped to the ground at every possible opportunity, and their fans were well up for it. To a large extent, this kind of tie is won in the mind. And that is where generally you were lacking.
The problem is, and I said this before, but they have frightening pace on the counter. I know they are 10th in Ligue 1, but stylistically, they are a problem for us because they have players to exploit all our vulnerabilities. We will need to score 2 goals and not concede to go through which I don’t see happening. So essentially, we will need to score at least 3, which means we will have to play an expansive, attacking game. That will suit them down to the ground because they have the speed to pick us off on the counter. I’m not saying we won’t qualify, but it is going to be a mammoth task. Xhaka and Mustafi prove time and time again that they are liabilities in our team, yet fans will pipe up if they have one semi-decent game in 5. Mark my words - we will win NOTHING as long as they are still in our team. If Xhaka doesn't given the ball away in our third of the pitch, then Sokratis' first booking doesn't happen. If Mustafi wasn't hopelessly out of position, whilst also gifting possession to one of their most fluid attacking players, then Sokratis doesn't get the second booking (though I do think it was harsh, as Sarr looked to foul Sokratis first). Our in-game management of the entire second half was shambolic. We were committing men forward when we had 10 men. It literally played right into their hands. Pure and utter naivety. I hope I'm wrong when I say this, but I think it is going to be extremely difficult to qualify from the position we're in. Hopefully, the away goal we scored will prove to be crucial and won't be in vain.
I have to say I haven't been particularly impressed with Emery's in-game management. Wasn't much to write home about at PSG and isn't much to write home about now either. In that sense, he is very similar to late-era Wenger.
