Beddy, you're getting a little near the mark, especially for a mod old chap.

So many insults. You're not really setting a good example here if you don't mind me saying so. <ok>

Lots of opposition fans have praised our fans on the atmosphere we create at SMS and lots more have been impressed with our stadium. The green eyed monster is so easy to see in your posts FFD

Didn't say we achieved much in that time, you just kept banging on about history so i thought i'd point it out for you,oh and Pompey haven't achieved a great deal in that time either,oh sorry 2 cups during the war and a cup you got by beating 2 championship clubs in the semi and final.

UGH!! It's a big shed in the middle of an industrial estate in one of the poorest areas of the city. The cup game when we won 4-1 was quite a good atmosphere but that could have been down to the fact that we were in town <ok>

Staying in the top league for 27 years with several top 10 finishes in the modern era, qualifying for Europe 7 times is something that other clubs of our size and stature would love to have had. It is just a myth that we were battling relegation for all of our time in the top league as we only finished in the bottom five a handful of times.
Pompey finished in the bottom five 3 years out of the 7 they spent in the top league.

Right so it was a good atmosphere when we played pompey which surely is the only time you come to st marys so how can you have an opinion on the atmosphere in general? (and don't say television because it's never the same on tv) and yes the surrounding area isn't great but honestly mate, what the hell is fratton? OMG it's awful!

Lot's of great pubs Adam- that's what Fratton is all about. There's around 15 good pubs within 10 minutes of the ground.
That's why the atmosphere can be so good <cheers>

I don't want to get into a tit for tat debate with you FFD, but I had many seasons at The Ol' Girl and I can tell you I'm bloody glad to be at the flat packed stadium known as St Marys. It's a lovely stadium, full of BIG atmosphere. Not that close, tight and little atmosphere that you used to get at The Dell, but something more akin to much, much bigger grounds. The Dell was great for back then. But that was before, and there's no going back. And I certainly don't want to, even though one or two deluded Saints fans might say otherwise.

I know you call St Marys the flat-pack-stadium so as to reduce it to the smallest impression that it can make. It's a measure of how muh it annoys you that you take the trouble. Otherwise you wouldn't even mention it. But truthfully, you'd take it in a heartbeat, just as any rational person would, with a decaying staium. St Marys has plenty of atmosphere, as I said, it's just different to the old days. There's plenty of potential in it too. So don't knock it, because with a bit of luck, you'll get your own flat pack stadium one day. Just don't hold your breath.

SecondStain. I can only say to you honestly - that's how I really feel.

After having visited the Baseball Ground, Burnden Park, Highfield Road or Filbert Street, none of the new places inspire you.

They're all the same. They have no vocal point for the home fans, yes the facilities are better but give me a good old fashioned ground any day. Fratton needs a lot of work now but I'm hoping they will eventually turn the ground and keep some of what makes it so special.

The Dell always was pretty dreadful so the new place was always going to be an improvment.

Our stadium would be a morgue with only 12,000 in it, so Pompey are lucky not to have SMS. Fortunately, a club with lots of supporters got it.

I'm not going there Fran. <ok>

Just seen many 30,000 plus crowds in the past. Loads of reasons for present situation. Enough said.
