We would have been better off going into Administration in 2014, taking the relegation and points deduction etc. Would that really have been any worse than the last 5 years of Duchatelet?
completely agree. we'd have a strong, together support still. we'd have the youth team that would easily get us out of L2, we'd have kept the £15m we got for lookman. SCP got us out of L1 with £1m.
But Roland won't tell us. He's been asked again and again, he just won't say. So any guesses or rumour based estimates are valid as far as I'm concerned. I read in the Daily Mail (online) that the price is £70 million. So that's what I'm content to believe.
It has been a devastating few weeks as a Charlton supporter. I enjoy going to see my team but I am absolutely pissed off with how the Club is being run off the pitch. To hear that RD will not drop his asking price and that experienced football people like Gallen and Bowyer have to pass their prospective signings past a spotty Herbert, Driesen is further evidence on how our Club is being rundown. According to Gallen, next season we will have to look at the free transfers in Div 1 and div2 for our players, irrespective of what division we are in. Duchatelet has no interest or ambition for us.More direct action in Belgium is needed.
Of all the 'crisis' Clubs being discussed by the EFL, Charlton Athletic is the most needless case. Duchatelet has no money problems. He is successful and very wealthy, and his footballing hobby certainly does not threaten the rest of his business empire. I cannot believe the EFL will have any sympathy for the man at all. Even if he has a point regarding fair play rule changes which he believes have moved the goalpost since he bought CAFC, the EFL are not going to buy the feeble line that this means RD can't find anybody who wants to buy a football Club anymore. And his whining about thugs damaging his property is pitiful, and unintentionally ironic. He just does not think he has done anything wrong - indeed he thinks he is incapable of making a mistake or failing. It's always somebody else's fault ... his comms team / Rick Everitt / some posters on CL / the EFL itself / fake news etc. etc. In terms of his absolute assurance of his own rightness and his dislike for anybody who can think for themselves and dare to criticise him, RD is a kind of Belgian Donald Trump - minus the charisma, sexual peccadilloes (hopefully) and overt racism.
everyone knows he had his own house spray painted. think i even read somewhere that the belgian police think it was done by a belgian.
I wouldn't put it past him. As part of the campaign of feigned outrage which followed, the Regime slipped out that Driesen is Steve Gallen's line manager.
believe it or not, i know one! but they were accounted for at the time (and they stopped going charlton once the anti belgian songs started)
Or just a Belgian who shares our hatred of Roland. There are quite a few. I believe that this is what pi55ed him off most of all, the support we got from the locals at the Belgian protest.
Like @DickPlumb , I feel gloomy about the club's prospects after the latest FF comments. Bowyer and the players are doing their very best, but even our average league position is nothing more than lipstick on the pig. Behind the scenes - the reality. Hatchet faced fat bully boy employees, recently banning lifelong Charlton fans. A decimated ticket office that provides a poor service to loyal fans. A Belgium stooge (Turkey) travelling over from the Continent to repeat his master's lies. An internet geek who can barely speak English advising "the President" on players, ahead of a manager with 459 career appearances and an England cap. A handful of wet blanket quisling lame brains on another forum, still publicly defending this prick. And 12-15 of the First Team Squad about to collectively expire their contracts. Oh, and Steve Gallen saying that regardless of which division we are in next season (it will be League One), we will be "looking downwards" in terms of player recruitment. What a fvcking mess.
Patsy White has just announced on Talkshite that a new offer of £30m has just been made to the Belgian …. no further details available at present...… other than those above
My worries are twofold... 1) The Standard is edited by Osbourne and I don't trust a word that comes out of his mouth. 2) The last time we were told something like this was days before the Sunderland home game … we are now days before the Portsmouth home game... coincidence ?? possibly
Not a coincidence at all. A cynical effort to whip up a bit of positivity and false hope before a 'big' game - just like prior to the Sunderland game, as you rightly pointed out. There will doubtless be many more take-over rumours and Jim White telling fans "it's happening" over the next month or so, as the 2019-20 season tickets are going on sale soon. The regime thinks Charlton fans were born yesterday, but only an ever diminishing few pay any heed to what the Club says now.
