Its really simple guys. I said it before mourinho was replaced, i said it the day he was replaced and i'll say it again now. Mourinho was holding them back, the team was far better than it was performing and it is showing it now.

    With respect to squad.

LFC fans have this thing abut bigging the **** up out of the squad and certain players

Our season is built on 3 fordwards and our GK and our CB. yes the full backs are also important bu tthose key 5 are the reason why we did well (as well as loing in cups i guess)

    Alisson
    TAA
    Gomez
    VVD
    Robertson
    Fabinho (now)
    wijnaldum
    Milner
    Mane
    firmino
    salah

thats our team. we then have keita and then the reserves would be

Mingolet Matip, lovern, lallana, shaqiri, henderson, moreno?, sturridge, origi now.

    Seriously..

    Utd:

De gea (if i were biased i'd say i wouldn't have him over alisson but lets just say both are top class)
    Young
    Smalling
Lindeloff (the cb transformed most by OGS,)
    Shaw
    Matic
    Herrera
    Pogba
    Martial
    Rashford
    Lingard

i dont think utd fans would disagree thats OGS go to team.

    Their reserves:
Romero, jones, bailly, valencia, darmian, Mctominay, mata, lukaku, fred, etc etc.

IF we took off our red tinted glasses for just a moment and looked critically at our reserves and utds reserves ours are pretty average, they've some that have repsonded well to OGS so far too.

For me LFC real class is VVD. peopel can say i'd not swap this player or that player for the world but the reality is Windy? fabinho.. milner? REALLY? REALLY?

UTd might be attacking but they are also defending decently now. Frankly the transformation of lindeloff is hilarious. Mourinho must be the worlds worst coach if he made that poor an impression on these guys.

How many of Man Utd's first XI would you put into our first XI?

It's fine saying their reserves are better than our reserves but that doesn't mean their squad is better than ours when their first XI is significantly worse. Your first XI is half your squad, and the most important half.

I don't think it was just Mourinho although his selfishness and attention seeking was special. Van Gaal and Moyes couldn't also bring out the best of their players. They all shrunk whenever they played for their team instead of playing fully to their potential. So what's impressive (which what astro dismisses as any decent manager could have done) is how most of their players are now playing to their optimum. I honestly do not think that if our first team had been decimated like they've been we would have coped. Without our top players we struggle to win.

I hate to think how we would cope without VVD or even Allison. Our defence's solidity rests almost entirely on VVD.

It depends on whether we are talking about form or innate ability. Around the time of the match at Anfield, I would have put only one of their players (Pogba) in our first team. so 10 to 1. But by the time we met them again at OT, I would have said probably 4 definitely and possibly 5 so it was 7 to 4. But if we are talking about inate ability or playing to their full potential, I am afraid I would put it much much closer like 6 to 5 or even 5 to 6. For me VVD, Robertson, Firmino, Mane and Salah are the only definite choices.

    First XI:
    Alisson ~ De Gea
    Robertson > Shaw
    VVD > Lindeloff
    Gomez > Smalling
    TAA > Young
    Fabinho > Matic
    Wijnaldum > Herrera
    AOC < Pogba
    Mané > Lingard
    Firmino > Rashford
    Salah > Martial

    Subs:
    Mignolet < Romero
    Lovren ~ Bailly
    Matip > Jones
    Keita > Fred
    Henderson > McTominay
    Milner > Valencia
    Lallana < Pereira
    Shaqiri > Mata
    Origi < Lukaku
    Sturridge ~ Sanchez
    Moreno ~ Darmian
    Camacho < Dalot
    Hoever < Rojo

    So I have us W14 L6 D4

Feel free to point out the red tint though. There must be a lot of differences for it to swing around as Man Utd having the better squad so I'm interested to see where they all are?

    TAA, Gomez, Fabinho?

Allison v DDG is a close one. Arguments for and against both. This season Allison been better but De gea is arguably best in world over last 3 years.

Defence, I honestly wouldn’t have any united player in back line. TAA Gomez VVD and Robbo.

Midfield is where we are weak though. Fabinho would be Agra’s if Matic for me but after that. Pogba on form and potential would be in there and then you’re splitting hairs between Herrera and Gini really.

Up top, on form, Firm Salah mane would be my front 3. Not just individually but they compliment each other well. But Rashford and Martial could easily interchange with mane in reality.

Cant argue too much. Gini, Lovren, Shaqiri would be swapped for me though.

It's easy to put in effort against what everyone admits has been a relatively easy run of games, with players that are fresh from doing nothing all season.

People forget that before Gomez was injured he looked comparable or even better than VVD in many games.

City vs United in next round of CL? That would surely be a tasty draw.

Another dull match as we seen in the last meeting unless lady luck played a part. It would be interesting since they would meet twice before the end of the season.

The ruling apparently says it's handball if you use your arms to make yourself bigger. Arms by your side is still making you bigger

You could swap the pairings about and get a different outcome...

I was going to say that I'd take our entire first-choice back line over theirs, and that Fabinho is coming on so well that he'd be a match for any of their MF apart from Pogba -when the latter can be arsed.
But others have beaten me to it so I won't bother. :)

I agree with that other than the Herrera thing who is a better player than Wijnaldum imo.

Ffs lads. Who cares about Utd’s squad. I care only about ours.

When Klopp joined, our attack was a laughing stock, it’s now not

Last year our defence was a laughing stock. It’s now the best in Europe

This year our midfield is not scoring or creative enough and our cover for forwards and full backs is lightweight. I suspect it won’t be next year.

That’s the only squad I care about tbh. The rest we have no influence over and who’s is better/worse is highly subjective so why bother?

    Just saying <diva>

What do they say? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

As it is a squad game, we might approach it another way and look at the positional strengths rather than individual player strengths. And also (as has been said earlier by Zanjinho) you change the pairing you get a different answer.

I definitely do not see how 14 of our players are stronger in their positions compared to only 6 for them.
