This is the first year I have not used my scattergun approach to making a tidy profit on the Cheltenham Gold Cup however I am now becoming a touch toey! Considering fairly substantial wagers as below: RSA - Topofthegame Ryanair - Monalee Gold Cup - cannot desert Native River
I say a few ‘Despondent Dave’s’ on here re Santini. Have you never heard of the expression, ‘In Lieutenant Henderson we trust’. Come on people, more positivity. And remember if anyone can The Lieutenant can. The whole Cheltenham thingy steps up a gear later on today as the ants, sorry decs, for next Tuesday are announced. Will your fancy remain in, will any major opponents be taken out, will the principals all stand their ground??? We await and see…
I say The Lieutenant is in good heart right now. He’s just announced, with a spring in his step and a song in his heart, "All is well in the world with Santini this morning and we’re firmly back on track for the RSA!" I knew we could rely on those ‘magic hands’, team. What an inspiration he is to us all.
Surely the question is which horse is Mullins going to jock the forums favourite (well Sticks) jockey Lizzie Kelly up on for the kids race?
Who on earth could that have been?!? I’ll guess a much loved and much respected member…oh no, hold on, it was me. Hope the old boy has a great retirement. Always wonder though what would have happened re this one had, in his pomp, he been barned with either The Lieutenant or Mr Nicholls.
Road To Respect looking likely to go Ryanair Chase now Fourth in the Gold Cup a year ago, the three-time Grade 1 winning chaser is a 20-1 shot for the Gold Cup on Friday week but his trainer Noel Meade said: "We're considering changing plans and running Road To Respect in the Ryanair instead of the Gold Cup. We haven't decided yet which race he'll run in, but we're thinking of going for the shorter race."
Betfair preview evening tonight if anyone interested https://betting.betfair.com/horse-r...am-2019-preview-evening-march-6-160119-6.html
They left the mics on during the drinks break, what a bunch of pissheads the panel is. Sound has been shocking the whole evening, ffs
No good left on the going map at Cheltenham after today's deluge. 2/3 good to soft 1/3 soft and plenty more rain forecast. It's looking like another festival for the gutsy types who like to get their toe in.
Surely Frodon goes to the Ryanair? He's got little chance of lasting home on soft in the Gold Cup. Native River was shortening today with the ground softening. I was quite pleased to see Get In The Queue well supported in the Bumper. I backed him at 10/1 and most firms have him at 6/1 now, with only Sporting Bet going 8/1 on the boards. My main bets for this Festival are Buveur D'air, Battleoverdoyen, Native River, Santini, Get In The Queue and Frodon (Ryanair) Aramon and Lalor look like being scuppered by the rain but that's the gamble with ante-post.
I've never mentioned it before to avoid the ridiculing (!) but I have Samcro at 33-1 for the CH, not NRNB though. I just thought the price was potentially to good to be ignored and that if the old boy DID line up, he'd be much shorter. Re: the fans singing what a waste of money - they don't sing that at what used to be The Reebok - no one can remember the last time we bought a player! We get the dregs, other clubs cast-offs, backed up if possible by one or two loans (not too many as they cost wages) You know your club is in bad shape when the police come knocking, asking you to pay their policing bill

Bookmakers have barely reacted to Sir Erec having a stone bruise. With Santini, it was almost as if the horse had lost a leg. I was a bit surprised that firms pushed out Santini to 4/1 but still went NRNB, it seemed folly not to take the 4/1 in the circumstances. He's all blue and 3/1-11/4 across the board now. Frodon and Road To Respect are still prominent in the Gold Cup betting despite trainers saying they go to the RSA. The Gold Cup field looks sure to cut up quite a bit. Native River is 5/1 and 9/2 across the boards after the rain, so I am hopeful of my early punt at 7/1 paying off.
