International Trade Secretary Liam Fox welcomed a new offer from Tory Brexiteers as "a genuine attempt" to find "common territory".

The Brexit-backing European Research Group has set out three tests it wants Theresa May to pass to secure its support for her deal with the EU.

They still want a time-limit to the Irish backstop - but they say they don't mind how that is achieved.

Mrs May has promised MPs a vote on her deal on or before 12 March.

The three tests, drawn up by eight Brexit-backing lawyers, including Tories and a DUP MP, is seen as a softening of the ERG's previous stance on the backstop, which is meant to prevent the return of a hard border on the island of Ireland.

it is amazing to me how when there's been over a month? of talks with eu and zero movement these Brexiteers can pop up and basically demand the exact same thing as before and think it's going to happen.

    the reality is imo.

    a) the Labour party will probably line up on the 12th and help vote mays deal.down again.
    b) the Labour party will then expect the no to no deal.vote to carry the next day... somehow.

then ****.knows what happens next as it's a spiralling mess

Toyota and BMW now saying that with a no deal Brexit they will definitely be scaling down investment and production of their Cars in the Uk. That follows Nissan, Honda, Land Rover, Jaguar and others who have already announced reductions of production. Will we have any car industry left ?

In general investment has fallen from 2.5bn to 900m over a couple of years, that’s a massive fall.

I thought jag had announced positive news?

The issue for me is timing. If Brexit was 5 years ago or in 10 years time the outlook could be different.

At this point they are all looking at new model new electric tech and a lot are pulling back to base.

The issue for eu is they did a deal which in effect opens entire eu to Japanese cars made in Japan at lowest cost they can. No longer a need to base in Europe.

Had we been staying in the EU I believe we could have ensured some kind of deal to maintain manufacturing here, but as we are leaving we weren't involved. Not surprisingly they are all starting to scale down and **** off

the honda thing is un related in my view having looked at it. The plant in swindon was making for us and europe and they have pulled the lot back to japan as they are simply not prepared or ready for the electrification revolution. They were losing sales and had half shut down years ago.

As to the rest.... its hard to know what the root cause is but bexit and tariffs have to be somewhere on the decision tree, but they are not alone.

Lets face it. Brexit is an unnecessary burden on the car industry. They are already facing massive challenges regarding their future direction: new electric engines, diesel engines to continue or not etc. The Brexit issue is one complication they didn't need. If faced with potential significant tariffs, most would do the same. Why would you to pour huge sums on a plant that could close in a few years?

The car workers in Sunderland and Swindon must surely regret their decision. Because any loss of jobs has to be linked to Brexit.

but they will all probably get a massive pay off and state aid. so i'm sure theres plenty not to displeased. its the ones supplying the plants that wont get **** that are most affected.

EU says absolutely nothing happening. No breakthroughs.

UK clown says things are constructive and we are getting down to the heart of the matter.. its all good trust me.

Basically The eu are saying don't let the door hit you on the way out while the UK is still playing the game speaking to those at home like as if we cant tell they are bullshitting.

The next 6 days will be utterly wasted and on the 12th there will be a second refusal of the UK withdrawal agreement and then there is only one outcome left.

    no deal.

you can vote what you like next but extensions and all that are just moving problem 3 month later.

I cannot believe that any government can choose to make the people deliberately poorer, making many unemployed and severely affecting the NHS and other services just to save their party from splitting.

Right now Labour are pushing for something corbyn really doesn't want cos he knows its a waste of time and is letting them off. A 2nd referendum .he's doing that to stop his party splitting.

he should be saying right. this deal that was agreed is only deal in town get get it done.

May is playing some odd hear no evil see no evil game and rocking in a corner going la la la.... nobody knows what the **** shes onto now.

Brexit news latest: EU negotiations hit crisis point with days left to reach deal as Downing St admits 'robust exchange of views'
Downing Street has admitted that talks between cabinet ministers and EU officials have been “difficult” and saw a “robust exchange of views” – despite there being just days left to secure an agreement.

EU officials had earlier said the latest talks with Geoffrey Cox, the attorney general, and Stephen Barclay, the Brexit secretary, “did not go well”.

The admission came as the issue of knife crime dominated clashes between Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn at prime minister’s questions following a series of fatal stabbings across the UK.

Ms May said “we cannot arrest our way out of the problem”, as the Labour leader criticised cuts to police budgets and the vast reduction in the number of officers.

Anti-Semitism: Labour could face human rights probe

The Labour Party may have unlawfully discriminated against Jewish people, the UK's human rights watchdog says.

The Equalities and Human Rights Commission said it was considering launching a formal investigation into anti-Semitism in the party.

The Labour Party said: "We completely reject any suggestion the party has acted unlawfully and will be co-operating fully with the EHRC."

The watchdog is asking the party to work with it to improve its processes.

Once the EHRC's formal letter is received by Labour, the party will have 14 days to respond to the concerns raised.

Depending on the response, the commission can take enforcement action ranging from a voluntary agreement with the party to a full-blown investigation.

If a formal investigation was launched, the EHRC would request interviews with key figures in the party and have the power to demand access to correspondence, emails and other information to determine how Labour dealt with allegations of anti-Semitic discrimination.

    'Enforcement powers'
The action comes in response to complaints from a number of organisations and individuals, including the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism.

An Equality and Human Rights Commission spokesperson said: "Having received a number of complaints regarding anti-Semitism in the Labour Party, we believe Labour may have unlawfully discriminated against people because of their ethnicity and religious beliefs.

"Our concerns are sufficient for us to consider using our statutory enforcement powers.

"As set out in our enforcement policy, we are now engaging with the Labour Party to give them an opportunity to respond."
