I wouldn't be sure. Financially , Real might need to get rid of this year as rumours say he is now toxic in the dressing room. Fitness wise- 30 minutes every game or playing every other game would still be some strengthening
If Eriksen is going...and going to Real, then there's a chance. I'm torn on whether it would represent value for the wage that we'd have to pay him....but **** it....Yes, please.
There's no way we'd pay circa £70m-£80m for a guy who might be only able to play once a week or 30 mins each game. Plus, with regards to financials, it's not just the fee for him, it's his wages. Think he's on £350k plus whatever bonuses he gets. Our top earner is Kane on £200k and bonuses. Can't see Bale willing to drop £100k-£150k to join us, unless he was absolutely desperate to leave Real and equally desperate to join Spurs.
Alternatively, a two-year loan that would have him see out his Los Ladrones contract with FC Franco covering £200k of those wages in order to grease the wheels...
Honestly...I think Bale is broken ... 5 years as a Galatico (4 years playing second fiddle to Narcissus) has led to him no longer being a modest, great team player...will want to be top dog and (only in my opinion) will lead toa break up of our team spirit. Would rather remember him as he was tbh. Only Defoe, left on a high both times for us out of all those who returned.
This. Too injury prone and being paid too much money to be worth a punt. Probably end up in China soon.
Too much risk vs reward now, IMO. I don’t think we’d be getting the same Bale back we sold to RM, even if this was a deal that could be done. It’d eat into any potential transfer kitty/ leverage in some sort of swap deal, where we wouldn’t get value for money. I’m all for us pushing the boat out to secure a top player where possible, as I think we need to, but I’m not sure Bale is the right one, sadly.
Forget Bale...put all the finances into getting Sancho. Bale had his chance as much as I think he's a great player. His winning mentality is priceless though and something this bunch could go with
There's so-called talk according to The Mail that Real Madrid want to offer us £50m plus Bale to take Eriksen off our hands this summer (yeah, yeah, I know it's the Mail...): https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...th-Bale-Tottenham-Christian-Eriksen-deal.html Some say Bale is done but looking at these stats, I think I know which option I'd take (especially considering recent performances by the Dane). Bale is a winner and even if he played only 50-65% of matches next season, I know he'd put in a shift every game and turn up when it matters.
Bale and Eriksen are different types of players and one does not replace the other. I would take Bale back, but Eriksen would need to be replaced. Given Poch's history with Couthino, even a Couthino loan deal would work. Couthino is said to be unhappy at Barca.
Coutinho and Bale and then Eriksen can **** right off. Been disgusted by his lack of application recently. Was a huge fan - even before he joined us, recently he has been a disgrace imo. As for Bale, THE best player I've seen live. Would have him back in a heartbeat.
Agreed, but I'm talking in terms of application and what they actually bring to the team. Bale for me is 3 x the player Eriksen is. Better skills, attitude, commitment, goals scored and all round ability - not to mention experience and winning mentality. Eriksen thinks he's better than he actually is. As previous posters have said... Bale and Coutinho, yes please. Then Eriksen can take an f-ing hike as far as I'm concerned.
Damn, man. You lot really ripping Eriksen a new one here. No denying his form has been **** the past four or so weeks but he's still easily one of, if not our best player. His form might be down to his head being turned but I'd say it's more likely down to the fact he's played a hell of a lot games so far, so could well be suffering from fatigue. Only Toby and Kane have played more minutes in all competitions and Eriksen does a lot more running than both of those (even if he is a massive pussy when making a challenge). Excluding contract situation for a second, I wouldn't wanna swap him for Bale. Bale's older and more injury prone, Eriksen has barely suffered any long term injury since joining Spurs. Bale may well be more of a goal scorer but without someone like Eriksen in the side supplying the likes of him, Kane or Son, the goals would be less frequent. Spurs have zero creativity outside of Eriksen. Zero.
I wouldn’t say zero but it’s certainly a lot less. I think we can get a lot more out of Dele (especially in combination with another attacking midfield players if we changed how we play) but how we are right now you’re right, Eriksen is unique in what he brings to the team. His lack of form since the turn of the year has hurt us as much as if not more than the whole Kane/Son + Llorente debate has, no matter which side of that you’re on.
Agree to a point (and is why I included Coutinho in the transfer scenario) but don't forget Bale creates a lot of his own goals. How many Spurs players got assists just by rolling a simple ball to him in midfield?
In times of trouble, people either step up or go missing. The past four weeks whilst Kane was out was telling. Son stepped up. Eriksen went into his shell. So yes, he's getting torn one and justifiably so. Boy, I wonder what the connection could be?
You don't think playing so as not to injure himself is a good thing? If Eriksen could head the ball and tackle as well as provide the creativity he does he would have been out of our price bracket from day one. I agree with @Dier Hard. He is one of our best players and doesn't deserve any stick from fans.
FWIW, before I respond to individual replies, I'm well aware Eriksen's been gash in recent weeks, though I'm just pointing out that I think there's perhaps an over-reaction to his poor form. Seems as if a few wouldn't be bothered if he left, to which I find pretty strange. Dele can rack up impressive stats but he's nowhere near the level of creativity of Eriksen. I think what you mention about his form just shows how reliant we are on him. When he's not on form, Spurs aren't... That to me signals how heavily reliant we are on him and that without him/ when he's not on form, Spurs struggle. That's why I don't think swapping him for Bale as some have suggested would necessarily be a good idea, I think Bale would flourish if played with Eriksen, not instead of. He's not really doing that at Madrid these days though. You could make a strong case to say that the Bale of the final season at Spurs hasn't really been seen at Madrid as often as they'd like. He's scored some belters don't get me wrong but I don't think he's found the levels of consistency they were expecting. As for Coutinho, I've always rated Eriksen as a much better player, I also don't think Coutinho covers as much ground as Eriksen does so would be unsure if he'd fit what Poch would want, often seems like someone who needs the ball into him rather than willingly moving around to receive it. Son scored four goals in Kane's absence, Eriksen grabbed a goal and two assists. Bale don't make tackles either though but he's missing about 10-15 games a season.
