Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino: "I am so happy because we didn't deserve to lose the game - we were better than them so it would be a shame to lose the game in that way. "I am happy with the performance, it was a tough game and difficult to play Arsenal but I am happy after two defeats to take a positive result to build confidence for Tuesday, to go to Borussia Dortmund and go through to the next stage of the Champions League." Better than them? Really?
I wasn’t able to watch it today, but judging by the comments on here, it’s pretty much the performance I expected, even if the result was better than I had predicted. Gonna stick on the recording now and see for myself. See you on the other side!
We dominated possession and they were very negative so I would say we marginally shared the performance.
Not sure about that. Thought we were a lot better than against Chelski. Thought a draw was probably fair, but they certainly didn't deserve to win. But did anyone else get the game through BT? The commentary was utterly crap. I seriously considered turning it off and just watching. I get BT1 for free but even still if McManaman is in the box on the next free match I'd rather watch some bad streaming. I can't remember a more one sided co-commentator, and that's saying something considering some of the bias we've heard over the years. He must surely have been watching some different game from the bad days when they were a lot better than us?
Apparently it's a rule that all mid-90s Saltypool players employed by Sky/BT must slag us off every chance they get, no matter how much it makes them sound as bitter as an early 80s journeyman midfielder whose career peaked when they had a season at QPR
McManaman was absolutely awful. The glee in his voice when it looked like we would lose - which was for the vast majority of the match - was so thick you could almost have touched it.
He seems livid about the refereeing recently. It won't change anything of course, though. I'd still like to know what passed between Poch and Mike Dean but I suspect we never will.
Totally agree he's a crap one dimensional commentator and is so biased ffs I wish we didn't have to have all these twats commenting on our games
Never seen Poch like this before. Think even he is seeing what us fans see and is starting to question some of the officiating we’ve been on the receiving end of. It’s not a coincidence. Much of it has been criminal and it has to be said. Just amazed he has. Usually he shrugs it off, in public at least.
I was there mate so unsure of commentary. Atmosphere was appalling for a NLD though. We only erupted after the goal, was poor prior to that. As for the game, two shots on target for us I think plus the penalty. Our performances in the last three games have been dreadful. Even as a whole this season, our actual style of football has been poor despite picking up results, I don’t know if Poch has tried substituting style for substance but we’ve barely had any substance of late.
Anthony Taylor no doubt got wind that Kane`s penalty was offside, and evened things up when Aubameyang fell over. I think Poch is slowly becoming fed up with the overall standard of officiating and how certain clubs benefit from bad decisions far more than others. Him seeing the regular gifts raining down on the likes of Pool and United must make his blood boil. Today for once, we benefited from an offside error, but the bad decisions that have gone against us far outweigh the good. How Taylor missed that tackle on Kane is ridiculous, and Poch is right to complain, for too long he has failed to criticize the officials preferring to accept things as what they are, but all that does is give the referees an easy ride. The officials are far more likely to give the benefit of doubt to the team that complains the loudest, to avoid any potential shart storm coming their way. Accepting it as `that`s football` and saying nothing just makes it easier for them to make a bad call against us as they know there will be no real inquest into their incompetence. This nonsense `it all evens itself out over a season` is complete rubbish, it never does, particularly with certain clubs involved.
So just finished watching the game. Really odd watching a 90 minute game where you already know the result. Not even gonna bother to comment on the referee. I’ve just come to the conclusion that all the premier league referees are ****. The sooner VAR is introduced the better. As for our performance, it wasn’t too bad considering the type of game. A terrible mistake from Sanchez aside (that was literally what you’d see at grass roots level), we had lots of possession and passed the ball in a controlled manner. Our big problem lies in the attacking 3rd of the pitch. We are completely toothless. The slight glimpse of an attack broke down within seconds, and arsenal just casually gained possession and passed the ball out. The link up play is non existent and it feels like you’re watching a set of forwards that have all been purchased in January, and have no idea how to play alongside one another, when actually they’ve been team mates for years. It’s really worrying. We badly miss Dele, and with Eriksen not currently at the races, we are totally lost. I never thought our main attacking 6 could look so poor, as on paper it seems like the area of our squad where we’re strongest. I don’t know how Poch alters things to bring back our fast, creative attacks that oozed excitement and frightened the life out of defences. We’ve been the total opposite of that for sometime now. - Slow and ponderous. I also can’t help but feel that something in the camp isn’t right with Moura. The fact that Lamela has done bugger all for god knows how long, yet Moura can’t get a look in, is becoming concerning. I’m starting to wonder if Poch has gone off him. Really really odd. Anyway, it was nice to actually pick up a point....
Better wake up or we will not get in the EL. Poch and Levy will hate that......and half the team may be gone!!!!!!
Let's see what the Lunatic Fringe have to say about today's match... Leave the crying to the other lot, because bloody hell are they doing a lot of it...
Agree with all of this. As wretchedly bad as Trippier and Rose were in an attacking sense (let's not pull any punches, they were really bad), most of the time there was nobody for them to cross to. HK came short a lot of the time and without Dele running beyond him, there's nothing. It isn't Sonny's forte and it sure as hell isn't anything that Christian Eriksen, Moussa and Big Vic can help with. So we passed it sideways and backwards and tried intricate passes on the edge of the area until we lost the ball. The only player that could have altered the pattern was Lucas Moura. He will run beyond HK and can convert crosses. Llorente's a threat from set pieces and late on. However, we weren't brave enough to go for Lucas, even off the bench and resorted to Lamela yet again....and then Rose as playmaker, the 'Sonny as Left Wing Back' of this season. Unless we are braver, this season is going to slip away because we haven't played a decent 90 minutes for a very long time. Let's gub Dortmund and get our **** together and sort out Top 4 and get the **** out of that **** hole ground. COYS.
What's happened to Eriksen? It's a weird game when Sissoko looks more creative than him! Also what's the definitive answer on the "offside" penalty. I thought the argument made earlier, that you can't flag it until the ball is played (which is what seems to happen these days) is important because the foul happened first. You see it many times in a match that the offside player isn't penalised until he touches it. If Kane didn't get to touch it he's not offside - or is he? On the R5 phone in a couple of hours ago they were still saying it's offside - as did the ref that BTSport had for his opinion.
Those idiots know **** all. Law 11 states... "when a player in an offisde position is moving towards the ball with the intention of playing the ball and is fouled before playing or attempting to play the ball, or challenging an opponent for the ball, the foul is penalised as it has occurred before the offside offence" It's a penalty. No matter how much they want it not to be. It's hilarious that it's just about the only thing that Antony Taylor got right all afternoon.
