When I was little used to go to Yeovil Town who were then in the "Southern League". Moved to London in my mid teens and those were the days of the League Cup win and then Rodney and the Morgan twins and more. How could one not have lost one's heart to such a wonderful team?
My dad was a Gooner, dressed me in Red and white Y fronts (that can have a lasting effect on a young lad, still think i have the guns down there though) and he was sure I'd follow his foot steps. First game he took me too QPR vs Arsenal. Child logic, if Arsenal were the best team in the world and QPR beat them then QPR must be the best...My mums family were from Ealing anyway so works out just fine.
White city estate, dad took me too my first game when i was 3,mum used to work saturdays and he wouldnt miss the rs,so from 1963 the rest they say his history blue @ white blood running through my body.
I posed a very similar question on here a couple of months ago. This post has attracted a lot more postings, & hopefully we have gained a few more followers that will start going to games. So then, here we go....... I was born in Hammersmith Hospital in March 1966, I lived in Rhodes House, on the White City Estate, ( This is situated directly behind the 'School End ' now sadly knocked down. Adjacent to Bloemfontein Rd.) The floodlights of QPR used to shine directly into the courtyard of Rhodes House & like a moth to the the flame, I was drawn to them. During the matches, The mothers used to chat on doorsteps, the kids played football or cricket under there watchful eye, the men used to go to QPR, taking the kids with them. It was during these times that all the boys were taken to games, if they wanted to go, and were passed over the turnstiles for a token sum, only to be indoctrinated to their local team. There you have it, I'm told that the first QPR game I went to was V Preston, aged 2. Never looked back since. As I grew up I used to stand outside the players entrance to fill-up my autograph book, it was only around the corner. My mum used to have to come & get me about 8ish because I used to be still waiting...... for Stan Bowles. Since then, I have followed QPR home & away, and in the 82/3 season went to every game, ( Cup, friendlies & league.) I have worked at the club as a 'Fire Officer' 98-02 ( Very dark days!) I have been going ever since, trying to fit in games around my family & job as a London Fireman.
You forgot us lot here in Aus, cheeky git! And before you say it we're not South Sea Islanders either, last Time looked in the mirror I was neither Fijian or Samoan! Good thread though.
