He needs to be a little careful with his style of tackling, He actually tackles the guy with the wrong leg and if his timing is off a little he could well end up with a red card for that as he cuts right across the player and its almost an unnatural way of tackling.
The point is, his timing was perfect. I know what you’re saying, but I think it’s a case of speed of thought rather than recklessness on that occasion.
Agree about the tenacity Chilcs but the awareness has always been there and he has always had the intelligence to get himself in the box in good areas at the right time but now he has a more clinical edge and composure to his finishing (apart from when he had an air shot last night!). Would not be suprised at all to see him and Redders return to to the England squad before the end of this season.
What I saw, was Austin watching the keeper and not the ball, then stepping into him. The two acts combined made it easy for the ref to blow his whistle. If he had kept an eye on the ball, instead, he might have got away with it, especially as it looked as if the keeper would have had to go through him to get to the ball.
That's my opinion too - especially on replay. The look Austin gives the keeper did it for him. Either way, Fulham really need to ditch Rico. He's far too flappy. Yesterday's performance was just the latest example from him.
Missed the game last night as at BIC watching Prof Brian Cox- great night had by all then. It’s a bit difficult to avoid the clash when the tickets were purchased in 2017! Re Prowsey, the most aggressive I saw him was shortly after the Liverpool exodus when they first came back to St Marys . The way he hassled Lallana and Lovren I thought he was bound to get carded, possibly red. He really looked like he took their disloyalty personally.
And Valery. He was MOTM for me. Never gave up. Always wanted the ball. When he went down he was up so quick he hardly broke stride. One or two senior players could learn from that!
What a player Valery is going to be. Vital that we hang on to this generation of youngsters, him in particular. To do that, we’ll have to start by staying up.
I’d have to watch it again, but on first viewing Austin looked back at the keeper, but then just stood his ground ready to win the ball. Don’t think he even backed into him. If looking back to see where a keeper is is a foul...well, just proves how overprotected keepers are.
Didn`t the same thing happen last season with Austin ? - can`t remember who it was against, but the keeper basically jumped into him, and the goal was disallowed.
Cardiff - who are our relegation rivals - have to play Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool and Man U. We have Man U, Spurs and Liverpool. If we presume that neither team gets anything from the top six (which is quite likely) we're looking to match Cardiff over the remaining games with one less game against the big boys and Goal Advantage in our favour. It's not going to be pretty and we may be back in the relegation zone by the end of March, but I still believe it's ours to lose, not Cardiff's to win.
