I presume the falling gate to be a kind of portcullis ? I know of a small town in Asturias called Lena, which is the Spanish form of Helena (of Troy). Can't find a link to the gate though.
On the right lines with portcullis, that is the more common name, you are looking for an alternative. The Spanish town is famous (everything's relative) for it's red rocks. The mythological daughter has several variations but the three answers are spelt similarly and thus could sound similar... get one, you'll get them all!
Is it that woman with the snakes growing out of her head - Medusa ? In which case the town might be Las Medulas, which has red rocks. Still no idea about the portcullis ?
The town is in La Rioja. The mythological person had a child with Hermes. Can't give anything else away really on the third clues except to say it is another word for portcullis that is rarely, if ever, used today... probably because it undertakes a different, commonly used, meaning....
Hermes had children by many mythological women (like most of us in our dreams) ! One of them was called Herse - which sounds a bit like Herce (a village in La Rioja with red cliffs). So could this be the one ? As for the falling gate - this lends itself to 'Hearse' which could be symbolic of a kind of final gate falling. Or then again I could be barking up the wrong tree.

I didn't read the question fully -hence my limited response. Another guess. My son, who lives in Portugal tells me that large numbers of Portuguese go to work in France & switzerland, where they earn vastly more than they could in Portugal. They then build huge houses back in Portugal which they never have the time yo live in, but gives them a status they wouldn't get otherwise. So, is it Portugal ?
Over to you Bodbo. Around 20% of the population of Luxembourg are Portuguese nationals, and a quarter are of Portuguese extraction. Young Portuguese in Luxembourg must be the most multi lingual people anywhere. School starts there in German - at secondary school French is the teaching language, and most speak Letzeburgisch as well - with English being a compulsory subject from the 8th grade. So a bright Portuguese student could well have 5 languages by the time of leaving school. Take it away.
Our grandson, who is 5, speaks English and portuguese completely naturally and fluently. Makes my struggles to improve my french look pathetic. Ok. probably simple. Who won an FA Cup medal, and 15 years later a European Cup medal ? There might well be more than one, but I only know one!
Still working on this one - Kevin Keegan won the FA cup with Liverpool in 1974 and then the European Cup with Hamburg SV but that was only ten years later. Do you mean the European Cup as distinct from the Champions League ?
