When I said logical...I meant logical for anyone who didn't know Saints and might assume that we play better at home and consider that Fulham are worse than us (which they are, but so are Cardiff and we gifted them 6 points).
There is a lot of talk about how big a part the fans will play tonight, which i completely agree with, the only worry is when Ralph joined there was a massive uplift in the general mood but having suffered a poor January transfer window and some shocking results and individual performances recently the whole situation is looking as bad as it ever did. Yes the fans need to back the team but tonight is the night for all the coaches and playing staff to step up and take responsibility and put in a convincing performance that we haven't really seen this season. Come on Saints show us that we deserve to be in this league and lets see a performance we all think and keep being told we are capable of.
yes I was thinkng about this last night and it got me angry. I get selling players if we are planning a purchase but to just sell say Gabiadinni and not buy anyone isnt it a bit silly.
https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/1...aya-yoshida-is-itching-to-play-again/?ref=rss Yoshi talking about the fact he knew he would lose his place when he left for the Asian Cup. Hope he gets a chance this weekend...at least his usual Maya moment is earlier in the match giving us time to recover rather than the Stephens moment saved for injury time.
If the score is level, going into the final (say) 10 or 15 mins, I'm intrigued to see how much Fulham will go for it. In reality, I think everyone accepts that this is a must-win for Fulham (indeed, many people will say that even a win isn't enough for them any more). But the maths would say different. The maths would say that Fulham still have 30 points to play for after today, and that a draw here ensures that their distance from safety does not increase further. Even though the maths also said we weren't relegated at 0-0 against Swansea when Bednarek picked up his injury, Hughes knew full well that we had to roll the dice and go for the win. Hence Gabbi as Bednarek's replacement. The reality was must-win for us, must-not-lose for them. The difference of course is that for us that was game 37, whereas tonight for Fulham this is game 28. I'm intrigued because if Fulham are willing to sacrifice a point in order to try and win, that could play right into our hands - eg on the counter attack.
I’ll be happy with a draw. Of course, I won’t be happy with anything less than a 5-0 victory, but a draw will be enough to go above Cardiff, who won’t get many more points this season. Having settled for a draw, I expect us to win 25-0.
Fulham are terrible but you just know the atmoshere can turn very sour at st marys and the players cant bloody handle it!!!! I am not going - i am almost relieved !!!
Yeah, we know what the players and coaches need to do. The point is whether we as fans are going to help them do it by getting behind them, or make it more difficult for them by whinging and groaning every time they give evidence that they are not Man City. The squad is barely PL quality btw. That’s why we’re 18th.
Dear Fulham, Let's face it you're already relegated. You know it, we know it, and it won't do you much good beating Saints tonight, so might I suggest a different policy. The record defeat in the Premiership is 9-0. Why not let Saints win 10-0 this evening? This way you'll be part of a record and have a little piece of the Premiership associated with you. I'm sure this legacy will help inspire you to come back up next season. There's another advantage in letting Saints win too. We have every intention of staying in the Premiership, so beating us won't prepare you for the Championship. No, what you need to do is wait until 27th April when you're playing Cardiff. You can beat them in good conscience, knowing that it will give you the psychological advantage when you face them next season. Y'know it makes sense, so what d'you say? Yours, Hopeful of Southampton
Imagine if we got an early goal. How joyous would that be. Fans would be lifted. Booing would cease (temporarily) and the players might play with just an ounce of confidence. Ahh, a man can drean
It seems an unbelievable ludicrous thing to do and nobody in their right mind would do it, so what is really happening in the club. Who told them to do that ridiculous thing?
Hassenhuttl was the one saying he wanted to cut down the number of players he had. Which would at least mean selling some players without replacing them.
In Chiang Mai at the moment, flying to Kuala Lumpur after the game finishes. An old woman allowed me to thwack her gong (ooh er, matron) outside a temple yesterday, for good luck and happiness. So I've done my bit.
Yeah it work's both ways which is basically what i was saying. Its very difficult though to support something that is quite obviously being run very very poorly for a number of years. I do think our fans turn on the players too quickly which 100 percent doesn't help, However i do get where the frustrations come from and it's very hard for 30,000 people to cheer and sing when it feels like the end of the world is closing in.
You can't have it both ways though. Lots of us on here were saying the squad was bloated and needed trimming, we did just that by getting rid of a few (not really the few I personally would've picked, but others would have). Now we are saying that we have zero options, which isn't true. We have options they are just all ****. In an ideal world we would be able to bin about 20 players and start fresh but that obviously isn't possible in one transfer window. If we stay up then we can hopefully make some serious headway in the summer by getting rid of a fair few and bringing in some who Hassenhuttl actually wants. Even if we go down I can see a large number of this squad not being here anyway next year.
I am confident that this will actually happen tonight, my five year old daughter says 4-2 saints so I'm putting a cheeky fiver on.
