Yeah - I just realised our game at Bristol Rovers is also on Sky https://www.skysports.com/football/bristol-r-vs-sland/405659
A final against Pompey would be great. No disrespect to Bury, who have won the FA Cup as many times as we have (!), but....
Absolutely mate. Bury might pull 15-18k, to be fair Rovers would take a good few, but us and Pompey, well it would be house full. Be the first and likely last time this cup had that. Final has generally had 40-50k, 74k the record so that would be a walkover.
Even if that happened there’d need to be another big club in the league that took the competition seriously. It’s such an unlikely turn of events to have 2 clubs this size who haven’t put our youth teams and written the thing off early doors.
To be fair Nads, in the earlier matches in this competition, we did utilise a fair number of academy youngsters, but now we have reached the semi finals, I reckon Kenny Jackett will use senior players to hopefully get us through to Wembley.
So did we, particularly against the Skunks, when I believe that our team had a younger average age than theirs and we had the youngest player on the pitch (Kimpioka)
Poor management that - if you have a squad of players who get you to a semi final then tell them "you're not good enough to get us to the final so I'm playing the senior lads" - bit of a smack in the face for the youngsters isn't it? We've played our academy players and squad for the whole competition with some smatterings of senior players, but we've had a decent strong line up every time
If we get through to the final. I'd like to think we'll continue with our fringe players that have got us to this point.
I bet you won't though To be fair, you have probably got a larger first team squad than us, and we have a few injury problems and a number of ineligible players. Not sure that too many academy youngsters are ready for a Wembley atmosphere, and the pressure it brings.
Is that what’s happened in the league mate? Fell off badly. Strength in depth cost you? I was hoping was us and Pompey, have some ties to Portsmouth from my grandad who was in forces. Like Luton to join as they deserve it after the FA royally ****ed them. I think if it was Wembley would be a mix, we’d play a few more first team I’d imagine. You get to Wembley you want to win.
Heard that on our board so many times - the "negatives" always say they're realistic and that anyone with positivity is unrealistic! When, in reality, both are just giving opinions - neither are more realistic than the other as no one can predict the future
Our first 11 has changed a bit since this comp started. The likes of Power, Matthews, Baldwin now not in the first team and O'Nien with new signings in the first 11. Going to be interesting to see our starting team next week.
Think it'll be this 1. Luke O'Nien 2. Luke O'Nien 3. Luke O'Nien 4. Luke O'Nien 5. Luke O'Nien 6. Lee Cattermole 7. Grant Leadbitter 8. Luke O'Nien 9. Luke O'Nien 10. Luke O'Nien 11. Luke O'Nien
