Liverpool legend makes surprising Bristol City claim over Lee Johnson
He was full of praise for the Robins boss.

Mark Lawrenson says he thought Bristol City manager Lee Johnson was in danger of losing his job last season.

The Robins' phenomenal run of form came to an end on Saturday as they were defeated by league leaders Norwich City.

Speaking before the game on Football Focus, Lawrenson said that he felt the Robins could well have parted company with Johnson following their poor form at the end of last season.

He said: "It's the most difficult league ever, the Championship, because 46 league games, think of that on its own - it's battering every single week.

"Their achievement's have been very, very good, but you've got to be a bit wary because, once you start to lose games in that league, you can just fall away.

"He's done a great job because, towards the end of last season, you were looking and thinking 'he might not even keep his job', but he did and they've kicked on."

Fellow pundit Kevin Kilbane, meanwhile, felt that the Robins' recent good form could well propel them if they do qualify for the play-offs.

He said: "You look at teams in that sort of form in the Championship and, invariably, they go up.

"Bristol City had a similar sort of season last year, where in the second half of the season they did fall away a bit.

"I think the priority for them is to maintain that form to stay in the play-offs - if you're in the play-offs and in that sort of form, you've got a great chance."

What an adroit and well informed person Lawrenson is telling us something we already knew, the man is a plank IMO.

I have to disagree, I do not think Lee would have lost his job …. SL stated that "it was difficult times and we were in the process of rebuilding and the plan was to stick to / by this process, we had not got it right in the past couple of seasons and had to start all over again" [ my interpretation from a lot that was said ]
he even extended Lee's reign, and came out on a number of occasions to clarify and support [ a lot of peeps never really listen to the whole picture but spout off in a flash if one word is what triggers them ]
To be honest, had we gone down I think LEE WOULD HAVE STILL BEEN OUR MANAGER … however it wouldn't have been this team! but maybe one close to it!

Didn’t LJ himself say that he expected to be fired following THAT record-breaking series of defeats?

Did he? I think any manager in that position would comment along the lines of " it is not in my hands, I and the team are trying our best, we just need a bit more luck!
as an aside …….. I think either Tammy had no say /didnt want to or SL was not prepared to take on board Tammy! and the wage he may have needed … he is likely to have scored 20 goals anyway and hey we might have been top!

Utterly clueless. How he is still a top-level pundit is beyond me.
