"Don't Write Off Derry" Dave McIntyre/West London Sport Donât write off Derry, says QPR boss 09/09/2011 Neil Warnock insists Joey Bartonâs recent arrival at QPR does not necessarily mean the writing is on the wall for Shaun Derry. Veteran midfielder Derry has made a good start to the season and recently signed a new deal at Loftus Road, but is the first to admit many do not believe he is good enough for the Premier League. And Rangersâ capture of Barton, who is set to make his Râs debut against his former club Newcastle on Monday, means Derry faces an even tougher battle to hold down a first-team place. But, responding to the suggestion that Derry will inevitably be replaced, Warnock joked: âIâve been replacing Shaun Derry now for the best part of five years.â The Rangers boss added: âIf you look at him in training and the difference in his game since we signed Joey Barton, heâs been a revelation. âHe [Derry] wonât play every game, but you donât in the Premier League. I honestly wouldnât write him off.â Rangersâ glut of pre-deadline signings means the bulk of last seasonâs promotion-winning side now face the prospect of being frozen out. But Warnock said: âI think the whole squad are relieved weâve got these new players. They understand the experience they bring. âThey know we needed help, and now weâve got that help it doesnât mean weâre going to be safe from relegation or from losing games, but it gives us a chance to compete at what is the highest level in world football.â http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/dont-write-off-derry-says-qpr-boss/ iReader
It wouldn't surprise me if Derry starts ahead of Barton on Monday because of who we are playing. Barton coming on in the 2nd half might have more of an impact on the match and just diffuse a potential very early yellow card if he did start as I'm sure the tackles will be flying in...
You want to leave Joey Barton on the bench....in his first game.... against Newcastle..... Your a brave man Sooperhoop. Maybe Warnock could open a Twitter account and tweet the starting 11 to Joey, should make for a good read.
If he does come on as a sub, imagine the roar of the crowd and the excitement generated. Something a bit more special that just a cheer when his name is read out over the tannoy with everyone else's.
Wouldn't disagree - i just wouldn't want to be the one explaining to Joey he's starting on the bench.
my lord is still our guvnor if not on the pitch then off it, who doesn't go ooohhh when he unleashes a 35yarder?! really hope he becomes a member of the coaching staff when he does hang up his boots.
Barton has to start! The question is will Derry, or Faurlin, or both start? I think he'll drop Derry and play the same formation but cant be sure.
Agree with this, Barton and Faurlin to start, Derry on bench. Derry will be back Barton will unfortunately get injured at some point.
I can't see Barton starting either. I think Warnock will stick with Buzz and use Barton as a sub. Derry and Faulin in the middle. Buzz has performed reasonably well so far and I don't think it's Warnocks style to just drop people as soon as new playing staff arrive. He'll also be concerned about Bartons emotions and cards, like someone else noted. I think Young, Ferdinand and swp will start, but given the occasion Barton won't. Traore may also be a sub. Are Hill and Dyer available?
I agree that Hill may start agead of Traore. Otherwise we'd have 3 new players in the back 4 which could be a risk! Can't agree that Barton won't start though. I'm sure he will and think he must!! I'd go for: Kenny Young Gabbidon Ferdinand Hill Barton Derry SWP Taarabt Campbell Betty
I'm not saying it's the team I'd play, but I think Warnock will go with; Kenny Young|Gabb|Ferdinand|Hill Derry|Faulin Buzz|SWP|Taarabt Both Maybe DJ gets a start ahead of Buzz, but I doubt it. No change of formation. Warnock likes the 4-2-3-1 and I can't see that changing, especially at home. I'm very intrested to see the team sheet. Roll on Monday.
