"They can also kill with a gun when you are unarmed and have your back to them."

    -------------

They need to up their training.

    1) Go armed.
    2) Don't turn your back on them.

Such arguments are becoming more and more academic as the two units are becoming less and less distinguishable. They are now part of the same organisation (UKSF) and are often sent on joint missions together. The main difference between them remains in their separate specialties in the counter terrorism role. Some speculate that an eventual merger of the SAS & SBS is inevitable.

UKSF was established in 1987 in order to bring all UK Special Forces under a single command structure.

This arrangement was intended, amongst other things, to improve co-operation between staunch rivals the SAS and the SBS. One of the results of the formation of UKSF is that the SAS and SBS now have a common selection process for recruits (UKSF selection). The SAS and SBS are also doing more joint operations, leading to speculation that a merger between the two units will eventually happen. Adding to such speculation is the fact that, due to a lack of Royal Marines Officers wishing to command the SBS, SAS Officers are filling vacant positions in the SBS command structure.

So they cannot "drop down" to the SAS then?

    That's what I said.

I don'yt know if they can or not, I said about 10 posts ago, that i'm only going of what one of the SBS guys told me. I may be right, i may be wrong. He may have been telling the truth, or he may have been playing my cocks bigger than the SAS's. Who knows.

The glaring bobo seems to be this statement.

"The two Units are entirely different entities with no real connection - apart from joint operations and exercises. Recruitment for the SBS has NOTHING to do with recruitment for the SAS so i'm afraid you are talking nonsense or at the WUM."

He already stated that the "drop down" was what he had been told by someone who may have held his opinion with more than a hint of bias.

Well your mate in the SBS was "at it". I can assure you there is no facility for men who failed SBS selection (which is what I assume your mate meant) to go to the SAS. The SAS don't take cast offs from other units, and as I explained ANYONE with 3 years military service can apply to join the SAS so why would anyone have to drop down from the SBS?

There may be plans afoot to try and come up with a merger but I doubt it will happen. The SAS have a "Boat Troop" already and maybe that could become part of the SBS but I doubt that Units from the Navy and the Army could somehow merge. And what would be the purpose apart from a cost cutting exercise.

"The SAS because they are British which instantly makes them superior in all aspects of life"

I think this answer basically closes the discussion <whistle>

When it mentions it in a MOD website then I will believe it.

It's pie in the sky and that link is to a discussion forum no different to this one.

    Whit?

I'm old fashioned in that way, when people are talking nonsense i'll tell them, especially when they try and backtrack and clearly don't have a scooby <ok>
