Most people haven't questioned the money you spent on Downing - Walcott and Chamberlain were £15 million before they had any experience, and Valencia was £16 million two seasons ago, which with footballing inflation isn't too much removed from £20 million from Downing today. Most people are questioning the money spent on Henderson and Carroll, which seems pretty fair to me given their relatively inauspicious starts to their Liverpool careers.
true. and downing will probably prove to be worth every penny as you need someone to get the ball on carrols head
Hendo cost 16mil which is 500k less than Jones and he's had a decent start to his pool career. Scored a fantastic goal against Bolton and besides he's 21yrs old. I think he's good value for money considering his age.
now now... the chelsea boy looks fairly thick here. 1. you didn't sign the pfa player of any year, you signed the pfa fans player of the year... there is a difference! 2. meireles is very good, there... now hows about you stop wumming and start talking.. where is he going to play in your team? 3. be prepared for consistent injuries. 4. i just love the squealing about average players..... love it.
Basically what Hf says; but also I'd argue Hendo has made a storming start to his Liverpool career. The first game of the season was a bit tame, but the performance was solid. In the Bolton game I'd say he was man of the match, and it's obvious that he's getting better and better as he's played on the RW where he's meant to be played. In the Bolton game he looked like he was worth £20m, never mind £16m.
i can't really beleive anyone can make a comment that in one breath walcott and chamberlain at 15mil before experience is ok yet henderson based on some opinion that he played badly so far is not worth 16mil. thats just totally contradictory. for the record i don't really know one liverpool fan who thinks carroll's fee was ridiculous. you see my opniion is that most of the henderson bashers are not looking with thier eye but believing some talk baout how henderson lost form last year for sunderland so he must be trash.
I've seen every Liverpool game this season and genuinely think Henderson has been crap. Your best players against Bolton were Lucas (much as I hate to say it) and Suarez. Downing (who has looked the part) and Kuyt also played well. With the exception of the goal, Henderson was poor.
My first post here but I felt the need to put across some rational thought ahead of all the blinkered views and illiterate ramblings. To the Chelsea fan who writes in block paragraphs littered with poor English like an overflowing park bin - your exuberant chairmen basically reconstructed a Liverpool squad that looks more than capable of challenging for the CL positions. The Andy Carroll deal was brokered by FSG in that they established a £15m pound differential in value between Carroll and Torres. Chelsea happily paid Liverpool the £50m based on the £35m asking price of Newcastle. I don't really see how Liverpool lost anything from the deal. The deal was completed with the correct financial differential that the owners required and we signed one of the best young prospects in English football and got rid of a player who didn't want to be at the club. Result. Yes, the fee does not correlate to his current level of performance, but when somebody else has cleared that fee for you and bought a player in apparent decline from you for a vast amount then we really can't grumble. Meireles was an impact player at best. He's one of those players that are a luxury. On his day he's fantastic and you can probably create a Youtube clip that makes him look like the offspring of a prime Gascoigne and Messi combined. However, I could create a 60 minute lowlight of him drifting out of games, not tracking, avoiding tackles and misplacing Hollywood passes in one game. When watching football, a lot of people get tabloid blinkers on when judging players. The consistent are ignored in favour of the occasionally brilliant and if you stick an "O" or "Ez" on the end of a player's name they're automatically 50% better than anything homegrown. Time will tell, but I think Liverpool's squad is balanced, interchangeable, flexible and in a damn sight better state than it was 12 months ago under Roy Hodgson. If Liverpool can secure 4th place (and I believe we will) then you will see FSG attempting to procure two-three so called marquee players to add to the already well balanced squad, all this achieved with a wage bill £30m per annum less than this time last year and a squad of players who actually want to be there.
My own personal belief is that no chelsea fan with any sort of humility could possiblt wum based on value of players due to the cold hard fact that ambramovich has been grossly over paying for players since he took over. 50 million for torres was a huge over payment as we all knew his injury issues and form. Any wumming of "poor liverpool" is based more on fear of our improvement than any rational concept of whether our improvement is large enough or not.
Thank you. I have probably been WUM'ed into writing such a block of text but I enjoyed it anyway. Hopefully the first of many.
No, I just saw Skrtel in the banner and I was stuck for a name to sign up with! Hope I haven't thieved someone's ID.
I'm not going to be obtuse in defending a player of ours ad infinitum unlike some guys who can't see players flaws. Henderson is good, bags of energy and is playing his way in. his positioning needs to improve if he is playing wide but aside from that i don't see him either trotting about, hanging out wide not getting involved.... i don't see him making woeful passes nor bad tackles. of the young players bought this summer.... has mr chamberlain or lukawhazzits at chelsea or even impressive mr jones REALLY done so much better than the "crap" henderson. I would contend that any manager would be happy to get a 21 year old performing so well... hell i'll even throw a bone out and say i'd love the 22 year old carroll to be doing as well right now. Both have a lot more to give
