WTF has happened to that pitch at Schalke's stadium?

 

Schalke's pitch looks like they just finished laying it with rolls of turf from B&Q.
It's a removable one, so I hope that's not a sign of things to come for us.
Why they relaid it during their winter break is beyond me, though. Very strange timing.
