Dont come from Sunderland. Have no links to there apart from the football club. Prefer Durham then Newcastle personally, 2 places where I wouldnt exactly take it personally if somebody had a pop at them, but would have more impact on me than a pop at Sunderland.

Ive reason to believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, but historically if you come from Co. Durham, you supposedly should have supported Sunderland as Sunderland was part of Co. Durham. Coming from North of the Tyne, Northumberland, then you supposedly should have supported Newcastle. Both sides of my family, originally coming from the Consett/Stanley area have supported Sunderland as far back as my grandads, possibly further. Ive had no choice in the matter, sadly

Up until Kevin Keegan invented the Premier League it was 50/50 around our area as to who you supported.

 

You are wrong. I was born in Gateshead when it was a part of County Durham (that is before the 1974 boundary changes). Large swathes of Gateshead people follow Newcastle.

 

Oddly enough I'm from Gateshead as well, although I'm not quite as old as YOU.
Mackems were few and far between from my memory, and more so when I moved to BIrtley.

I think it's common knowledge that over the years nufc have constantly had more fans through the turnstiles than the mackems have. And that's despite what Smuggy or anyone else claims.
