Honda closing in Swindon. 3,500 jobs going plus god knows how many more in the supply chain and support industries. It’s what people voted for.
what has honda got to do with europe? sounds like jumping on the bandwagon to me and using brexit as an excuse for cutbacks they was probably going to do any way.
let them carry on, and what happens when Europe fails? all the arguments on here seem a little one sided.
Yes and JLR is Indian Ford is American Vauxhall is French Nissan is Japanese BMW is German Rolls Royce is German Bentley is German in other words all the owners of plants here are foreign owned . Am surprised by the Honda announcement as that seemed one of the more secure plants which is a huge worry. PS this is about a lot of other problems but Brexit sure isn't helping.
With respect mate you obviously aren’t up on the reasons why businesses are looking at relocating due to Brexit.
true and i have never pretended other wise. but one thing i will say, is the recent leaks of tescos axing jobs has **** all to do with brexit and more to do with profits and keeping shareholders happy. was supposed to be 15k if it wasn't for the leaks and had to tweak it so only 9k. so if a british company is struggling (ie greed) and needs adapting, makes you wonder if foreign companies are jumping on the bandwagon and using brexit as an excuse to leave.
"when europe fails 2 is the core issue wit hthe query. However if we park that (europe is a trading block built on 40 or 50 years of building o ntop of WTO rules. Brexit imo is a pol pot kaimer rouge effort to reset the clock to year zero on trade... utter madness) but yeah park that. its not hard google up honda sales in europe. I just did and its really not that bad to see where its made and who buys it but the REALITY... For the car industry there isa huge change coming. Making electric cars. Brexit is happening right when makers are deciding where to tool up. So... the real story in my view is you've given them all the willies, they cant be sure so they are going to make for the big market in a new facility rather than retool.
could trump end up being a **** and saying to honda you turned your back on uk we do same to you? reason i say is honda seem to have been in decline in europe for a while but doing well in the us. now if trump wants to deal with us then surely that is beneficial and may be detriment to others?
Who knows. You are right that honda are in decline as far as i can see. My view is there is a high level of complex decision making at plan here. its not all simple. Electric conversions Trade and tariffs. Markets emissions issues. Don't worry about trump though and helping us. Trump is only out for one thing and thats trump.... and by extension MAYBE if the USA is lucky USA interests. IF the UK is shafted by Honda and honda are happily making cars in the usa for the usa market then trump will lick their balls.
sort of it is still at present a rumour however it is being so widely reported that clearly there has been a leak and it seems certain in the next couple of days Honda will make it official. I don't think people realise how vital the auto industry is to our manufacturing sector and come to that our balance of trade.
The Japenese car industry came here to gain access to the EU. We are leaving the EU. They now have a trade deal with the EU so no longer need to manufacture here. So they have no reason to stay. Simplistic I know but all part of the broad sunlit uplands.
