Just back. Went with my two lads. I think a lot of people watched that through rose tinted specs. Our passing and movement was far too slow and almost everything went sideways or backwards. Almost every cross was floated over so that Gomes, who was excellent, could just come and claim them. Lumley takes too long to distribute the ball. Furlong is good in the air but bang average apart from that. Bidwell is plain poor, especially as a wing back. Leistner is pretty poor and Hall is very ordinary. Pawel never wants to go forward and can't cross the ball. Cousins is poor and Luongo is simply terrible on the ball. Wells works hard and is half decent and Smith is good in the air with the first touch of an ironing board. Freeman is very good and will probably be playing in the premier league next season. 3-5-2 with rubbish wing backs is just that, rubbish. Substitutions were baffling, especially taking Wells off when we needed a goal. Great atmosphere. We will do well to stay up.
Just seen this result a few hours late. It’s going to be a long, slow, end to the season now the fun stuff has come to an end.
If I can take one silver lining from last night.... Stood on the S block stairs for the second half, if we’d scored I’d honestly have ended up with about six manslaughter charges on my hands. Also had a drink with Ellers, but that’s more of a bronze lining.
A disappointing result last night, but a decent performance. Freeman was excellent again and (whisper it) Cousins had another good game, as did Luongo. We made it too easy for Gomes, I was crying out for Smith to give him a dig or two. He caught a lot of crosses without being challenged at all. Overall, I thought we deserved to take it to extra time at the very least.
Easily. To lose to that lot like that (I won’t use the term I want to on here for 999’s sake) is heartbreaking. Cousins did well in the middle. Utterly mental to take off our only wide player and put him there. Agreed on Smith. He needed to leave one on Gomes early. The bloke’s skull is about the size of golf ball though so can’t be an easy target. Leistner did go in quite late at one point.
A lot of huffing and puffing but little end product, I think we have a lack of confidence and that set-up last night was more not-to-lose than anything else. The impact of our losing run is affecting the team and we really need a win to stop the rot. As Col says there are a lot of players who just aren't good enough and we're going to have a nervy last three months of the season...
Good article have a read. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...highlights-fa-cup-fixtures-draw-a8782026.html
I'm awake now. I think we missed a good chance last night. Watford were not at their best and if we had the rub of the green...who knows? I think we have to accept that we are a limited team and sometimes we overachieve and some can get carried away. Tuesday's game had an effect on the team in the last 15 minutes. We looked tired. I came away gutted like the rest of you but there were some positives. As our own Watford said over a beer that nights like these are special. Under the lights at QPR standing cramped in the RBlock was fun.
If we can play with that pressure and improve our quality of finishing in front of goal we won’t have much to worry about on this division - as said somewhere before there are many worse teams than us in this division. We need to brush ourselves down and get down to the business of league football now. But we do have a limited squad. How things will be next season is anyone’s guess with our financial position though.
Have to say I wasn't looking through rose tinted glasses..... The back 3 or 4 looked fairly solid throughout didn't give Deeney or Grey any opportunites save one dodgy offside call by linesman which saved us going 2 down Cousins and Luongo were decent, didn't give their much vaunted midfield a lot of time on the ball Freeman was best player on pitch for 70 minutes Pav just needs to look up before crossing with a bit more pace on the ball, floating in the crosses allowed Gomes to claim far more than he should have done. Smith is limited but we should have been hitting more angled crosses from Furlong and Bidwell allowing him to attack the ball. Wells needs a goal, unlucky with mis hit that Gomes turned around post and the 2nd half effort. Substitutions worked against us.....did Hemed touch the ball? If taking Pav off then surely the obvious change was BOS to have pace out wide, Cousins was lost in that role and lost his effectiveness. Their defensive substitutions closed up the game..... Overall we deserved to take them to Extra Time, but fine margins... HQ looked magnificent.....
It’s over of course Hence my disappointment But we move on Oxbow has made a lot of progress to our side I definitely didn’t believe in him but now I very much do. We can’t wish for a super rangers side overnight so we are left with a race to 50 points now in a very crazy league. Last night we did well defensively and really did make Watford look ordinary so defeat is fading away for me now ... it was what is was I expect all of us are still cross about what has happened to the club all we can do is hope we build and stabilise... that is doable and say again we are nowhere near becoming a premier league club at the moment ... anyone in this league will struggle up there st the moment Only team in recent seasons that have got the transition right are Wolves imo Next focus is payback to West Brom on Tuesday Poxy pink shirts hopefully will be gone next season and Oxbow can start to think about a proper rebuild next season
If they hadn't won promotion last season they'd have been hammered by FFP. They took the gamble and, luckily for them, it paid off...
