Well lets be honest, you weren't very good really were you, although you still deserve the credit for being the best over the course of a season.

I think the teams lower down the table deserve the credit. Last season I looked at every away game and I didn't think United were odds on to win it. Sides like Sunderland have improved so much that they can go to Chelsea and win 3-0. West Brom went to the Emirates and won, come to Old Trafford and got a well deserved point.

United weren't very good compared to previous seasons but they were still decent enough in Europe to get to the final.

Who are decent Euro opposition? Chelsea are probably in the Top 5 sides in Europe right now. I said this earlier you wouldn't write off any of your European Cup wins in the 80's even though you beat the likes of Crusaders, Trabzonspor and Oulu, all amateur sides, on the way to winning the trophy would you?

According to Goonies, Stewart Downing is average, but compared to Theo ''I run in straight lines and can't cross my legs'' Walcott, he's world class.

I can honestly say I hate this country after he won the Player of the Year. Biggest load of bollocks I have ever seen.

Its Gareth ''I'm a failed full-back and I had 3 good games and now I'm better than Messi'' Bale. According to Boycie Redknapp he's worth 50 million, he didn't say what currency. Well he did say the same thing about Luka ''3 goals'' Modric.

Well last season if you had faced either of the milan teams at the first knockout round most sensible observers think you would prob gone out and same for the next round with the likes of real madrid, barca.

As with league you did well against the teams you faced but it's no marker of a great team.

I can agree with everyone about the Gareth Bale comments. He thinks he is god of the Wales squad.

You've backed up my point perfectly there. All of those players; came from different leagues where they impressed, but because Adam and Downing etc.. came from "lesser" teams they're suddenly average. If you looked at the stats, then Downing is a better traditional winger than Young and only second to Valencia (I think?) in Crosses per game, if we bought him for that then it's money well spent - you'd command more than £20m for Valencia now, so why isn't Downing worth the same?

I'm not saying we shouldn't question all players' judgement, but when everyone is categorically saying "We've spent too much on average players." Are people really naive to think we'd pay £20m for Downing if we didn't think he was worth it?

ANy of the Milan teams? One of them got knocked out by Tottenham and the other by the team we beat 6-1 in the semi finals. It is safe to say United are quite a way ahead of both Milan teams. Barcelona yes we would have gone out earlier had we faced them, NQAT.

Real Madrid though? I'm honestly sick of debating this. There is no evidence United would get knocked out by Madrid other than fans of rival clubs who like to claim so on the basis of them having better players than United. Both clubs previous records at home and in Europe tells a different story.

We won the best league in the world by 9 points, have won 4 out of the last 5 league titles and reached 3 Champions League finals in 4 years. Had this great Barcelona side not been around United would arguably have won 5 European Cups by now.

You can't argue that United aren't a great team.

united and real would be a good game. but you can't prove your point by saying 'if barca hadn't been around.' if they hadn't madrid would have won the league consecutivley for about 7 years ;) i see what you mean though.

The Milan teams?!? The ones that both lost to Spurs?!? Only one thing I can say to that...

    <doh>

Only Real and Barca have any claim to have been better than the chavs in the CL last season - no one else did any better. And we can have the Utd vs Real argument until we're blue in the face, but no one honestly knows what would happen in a two legged match between them.

True, but then no Utd fan claimed we had a great team last year. We had a good team that was still able to get results despite having some of our best and most important players injured or out of form for at least half of the season, and that's why we won the league. We also managed to perform in the games that mattered most, with the exception of the Barca match.

It doesn't matter where a player comes from, it goes by what they do at a big club.
Examples in recent times, Antonio Valencia, he came from Wigan, a bottom five team, he's been consistently consistent, he's been a major success. Downing may have been at mid-table Aston Villa. That has nothing to do with him as an individual and make him an average player because he was at an average team. The supposeably brilliant Ashley Young played for the same average team.
