As I said earlier stick, it's all over the place; definitely Ireland (common knowledge) but also France, Germany, Holland and I think Belgium
The full statement will make interesting reading Princess. I fear they are bowing to industry pressure to get things back up and running. If this turns out to be the wrong call it could be disastrous.
Ascot will stage a nine race card on Saturday, including the Betfair Hurdle and Denman Chase from Newbury. What a ****ing day of racing that will be!!
So, only horses that have been jabbed in the last six months are allowed to race. Any horses that haven’t will require boosters. That makes them poorly and recovery time is a minimum of a week. There may be some very small fields! I wonder if the McCain and Crisford horses had been vaccinated in the last six months........
I see the list of horses not eligible to run at the weekend is increasing by the minute – current high profile names, already announced as absentees, include Verdana Blue, Silver Streak, One For Arthur and Monsieur Lecoq.
Jumps trainers would vaccinate their horses during the Summer break en masse. It is quite likely to me that most will be beyond six months or getting very close.
And to that list you can now add the brightest star, the best in the business, the horse of a lifetime...Santini.
Driven purely by money. Some accusing the BHA of being over re-active. Can you imagine the criticism they would have got, knowing what they did, if they had not taken the action they did and there was a widespread uncontrollable outbreak?
Is the 6 months rule an over-reaction? It woud be good to think that some of the leading trainers were at least consulted, rather than this being an edict. I'm not sure how much it would knock a horse out of its Cheltenham prep to give it a booster this week? Regarding certain equine stars not being able to run this weekend, that could just have easily been triggered a case of extreme going (firm or heavy) and the trainer trotting out the usual "we didn't want to risk the horse this close to Cheltenham on unsuitable ground". Stop whinging people and get on with it.
Also horses that are vaccinated every year should be fine. My vet is from rossdales and they normally come every Wednesday. Il try and catch her for a chat.
A simple booster would probably set training back a week, depending on the constitution of the horse; some react better than others to vaccinations. A full course would make Cheltenham a non starter A friend of ours is an eminent vet and he agrees with the decision to go ahead with racing with all the stringent checking of passports for up to date vaccinations etc As far as I know though, there is no proven vaccination against this strain Some horses may be found to have the virus after a below par performance. Obviously there will be some with training set backs. I wouldn't be backing any horses until this has completely gone away.
Good vets there FP. Andy Bathe looked after 2 of ours. Excellent. He is also a very good friend of Katrina Moore, a very good friend of ours. It's not the vet I mentioned above btw.
Never met the guy myself but been to their hospital in Newmarket a few times. It’s an amazing facility. They save one of our horses once who’d been kicked. I thought he was a goner but they did an amazing job. Best vets in the world.
Henderson’s been on Twitter giving a list of horses that can’t run this weekend. He doesn’t say why! They can’t run. Bit suspicious.
