Only those of you who are, at least, in your mid-forties, will remember the genius of Frank Worthington. He featured for us in the 82/83 season and boy did he come here with a colourful reputation.

He played the game with flare and flamboyancy, and had more than his fair share of tricks. Another player who played this way was a certain Mr Matt Le Tissier.

Bendtner's style, when he is in form, is not unlike Worthy or Le Tiss.....IMO !

For those who know nothing of Worthy, take a look :-

I doubt if Bendtner lives to his 90th birthday he will ever live the life of Frank Worthington. The modern footballer couldn't cope with Franks lifestyle.

I was lucky enough to meet and talk to Frank when we had him as our guest speaker at the Chester le Street Branch annual dinner at the SOL a few years ago and I can tell you he is a really colourful character. He gave a dead pan, droll voiced 50 min rendition of his career which had everyone rocking and rolling with laughter. Great player and great personality and although he looked like he was about 85 and had the grizzled looks of a burned barbecue, the bird he brought with with him was a bloody stunner. Blonde, long legs, big tits and perfect smile. I had a full 'pan handle' on talking to her that night. The lucky git.

Frank was well past his very best when he came to Roker Park but he still had the skill, flair and an eye for the entertainment his career was known for. Can anyone remember the little 'keepy up' session he had down near the Fulwell end against Coventry (I think it was Coventry), when he did a little trick, followed by about 4 or 5 keepy ups and then spun round to cross the ball? The defenders where totally bedazzled and he just looked at them with disdain.

    Brilliant character.

PS- by the way, I rate Bendtner very highly and have done for some time. I think this is a really good bit of business for the club and a decent player for Bruce to get back on track. He certainly ain't no Frank Worthington IMO but he is a damned good footballer.

If you look closely you'll see that even the referee is clapping the goal in that second clip.
