No gruel at all unless you take in the French scene. Mr Reveley makes his comeback after injury in the card commencer at Angers. #clutchingatstraws

A smidging of excitement tomorrow though folks as the Grand National weights are out. Something of definite interest...I am quite interested to see what Blaklion will be allocated who currently holds an entry in the Cheltenham Gold Cup still. No one has mentioned this boy in the Gold Cup build up. Roll the clock back 12 months and connections decided to miss Cheltenham in favour of a tilt at the big race. That went badly wrong as he was brought down at the 1st. Previous RSA winner of course, I wonder if the Gold Cup will be his prep for the big race or is there more to it than that? NTD has talked this horse up in the past as a Gold Cup contender....

Am too greatly looking forward to this. Although connections of The Last Samuri must have been very disappointed to see the weekend fixtures wiped out as it would have given them the opportunity to further reduce his mark of 151 (in the ‘Denman Chase'). Still think he could be reasonably treated though.

The other one I really like is Mr Nicholls’ Give Me A Copper who ran a very, very eye-catching seasonal debut just over a week ago. Although I note that this one has recently been very well backed for the Ultima at the old Cheltenham Festival (now fave in fact).

The missus has wheeled out the ol soup maker again this weekend. Leek and potato - not flash but a stalwart - the Paul Madeley of soups (kids ask your Dad or google). 2 hunks of granary bread, salt & vinegar square crisps, yoghurt, kit Kat (2 fingers only), apple and a tangerine.

Very solid Chan, what's your rating out of 10?

(I would have had Phil Neal rather than Paul Madeley but there you go).

What is Alan King up to I wonder? He has given Sceau Royal an entry in Thursday's Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso. Will this be merely a "livener" prior to the Champion Chase? (It could well be academic depending on what the BHA say later today. It did catch my eye though).

Will post rating after lunch Oddy. Wouldn't expect nothing less from an Owls fan.

Potato Soup (from Saxony apparently), side salad and a roll. Glass of pink grapefruit juice. Generally pretty good (added some tabasco to the soup) but a point deducted for the roll, which was white and a little dry. Would've preferred something wholemeal. 7/10.

Waiting Patiently (or should that be 'forever') is one of a host of entries for the big race at Ascot on Saturday if racing is back on then. Although the forecast is about as dry as it can be and it's due to become very mild towards end of week. So even if racing is back on by then I wouldn't be surprised to see him a non runner. Going currently soft at Ascot but with no rain around whatsoever that's gonna get a lot quicker...:emoticon-0120-doh:..a dry as a bone week!

  15. <laugh> Presumably if it is back in the next week or so we will see bigger than usual fields so trainers can get that one last run into them won't we?

Leek and potato soup a very solid 7/10. Perfectly good fare but a bit safe. A bit like a 10 metre dive without the 3/4 somersaults required to attract top marks.

Santini has been given an entry for that Saturday card as well – in the Grade 2 Reynoldstown.

And at Haydock Park it is absolutely fantastic to see that my old fave, Yanworth, has been given an entry in the Grade 2 ‘Rendlesham Hurdle’. The old ‘equine flu’ might mean all this is purely academic but it’s great to see that the old boy is now back in full health and ready, I say ready, to go!

Have you seen he's also in Saturday's 'Pertemps Quailifier' at Haydock. Should he go that will be his 2nd 'Pertemps Qualifier' run of the season. Connections are either desperate to get Blaklion into the Final or see these events as the ideal 'prep' for end of term contests.
