I'm pretty sure that CP said he won't be using the loan market to bring players in, but will probably be shipping players out (Mambo, Francis and Benno I would assume).
Paynter is useless, fat and slow. He only scored goals for Swindon because of Austin and has not been prolific anywhere else. Leeds fans are desperate to get rid of him!
you want to stay well away lads, good luck with the promotion push & hope to see you in the championship next season
If he's not going to get a regular start for Leeds, a loan spell wouldn't be a bad idea. Its worked well for a number of our players, Nunez & Lees being the latest two. So long as we don't sell him... Me thinks when he does find his goalscoring form, he'll start scoring for fun
Might have been interested when he left Swindon- but since then his true worth is there for all to see. As is his weight.
He scored once for us in 23. And that was against Preston who went down. His only decent season he has had is the 09/10 season when he scored 29 in 52 (a lot of penaltys in there as well) Paynter has been made to look better than he is whilst being partnered with Simon Cox & Charlie Austin in league one. Thing is Grayson has come out & stated that Billy is still in our plans after we rejected a bid from Brighton & has publicly stated that we dont need another striker, and we have gone & agreed terms with Forsell! So where that leaves Paynter is anyones guess I can see him going out on loan to a league one club as thats his level (at best!) but after what I've seen of him at Swindon & Leeds I wouldnt touch him with a barge pole. Poor signing from the start & you really dont want him.
We need a target man for an option. Sheff Wed rather proves CP has yet to formalise plan B. Megson certainly showed up CP with his change of tactics.
why would anybody even consider swapping Benson for Paynter?? Benson will score goals and Paynter ........well.......doesn't!
IMHO dont go near paynter with a bargepole. hard to take swindon stats as indicative of any ability of paynter. most sunday league strikers playing upfront in league 1 with charlie austin would find it hard not to score goals.he was the class act...and immediately proving himself at burnley.
AllHell, you say he needed Charlie Austin to score goals, well we have both BWP and Hayes, both of whom can bring out the best in each other and tear defences apart for others to score, so would seem ideal potential partners for Paynter. I would be happy if he signed
When we ask for a target man- what exactly are we asking for? I see Hayes as a player who can hold up and support, qualities of a target man. Or do we want someone who is 6ft 3 and pump balls to?
I like Hayes but he doesn't jump, which all target men must do. His hold up play on the ground is terrific. As Ponders has said, we should have a target man, not so we play the long ball as Plan A, but rather as an option if Plan A isn't working.
