Because of course what Paul Lambert has done has worked wonders hasn't it? Who has been holding the ball up all season? Anyway, Sears as this in his locker as well as anyone else in the side.
Sears can hold up play better than Harrison and he works harder. Holding the ball is not enough, we need our strikers to be able to take on defenders and score goals. Also with 5-3-2 wing backs and 2 attacking midfielders I think we get in behind a lot more often than we have been.
Sears DOESN'T have this in his locker Hampy. He's best suited in a two man attack as a foil, see 14/15 with Murphy battering the living hell into players and Sears a very good foil. Jackson hold up - No! Again, it's not his game. I've seen very little, but Jackson was trusted with this role vs Accrington. We had no out ball and it kept coming back to us - sure he got hooked half time. Incredibly poor that day, Jackson really does have to work on that side of his game. So we'd have 9 behind these two losing the ball all the time and putting the defence / midfield under a lot more pressure. No thanks. Would be a terrible partnership.
No, Sears cannot hold up the ball better than Harrison. Harrison has actually been adept to doing that this season - maybe not a lot else, but he's held the ball up really quite well at times. Agreed, hold up play is not enough there are other elements required absolutely.
Respectfully disagree.. I would agree that no one works harder than Sears but his game has always been about playing on the shoulder, or (when played wider) getting it in wide areas and running at defenders. I'd also say that Keane and Quaner are far better suited to do that role as we are not capable of building play through the midfield so having a physical presence to 'lead the line' is an absolute necessity.. Mainly as we tend to have to go longer on occasions and we don't have bodies around the front men in order to be able to play quick pass and move into feet.. So we need someone with a bit more physicality and guile to hold off defenders in order for the midfield to trundle forwards.
Westy - Harrison has not been adept at much at all and believe me I was rooting for him. Scowey, I think you are misinterpreting me - I am talking about a different formation in response to Nuggets' post, not how we have been setting up. We need to be a lot more dynamic.
Laughing out loud here Spanish. I had no idea what to write in response to someone who expects to lose every week but wants the manager to stay. What kind of sorcery is this?
By the way gents, totally accept it's not Sears' strength but still think it's the best frontline we have in the squad and do not fancy Jackson playing off Sears, would make no sense. I always think players need to be a bit adaptable. No one aspect of a players' game can't be improved with a bit of work on the training ground.
Still not answered the question you buffoon! We are not good enough atm, Lambert needs the summer to sort it out, Jan window is never the best time to do business. SO, although I don't expect us to win atm, I still feel Lambert should be given the summer to sort things out and then given til Jan to see how things are shaping! So not really laughable, common sense IMO! Now answer my question, what was I quick to change my mind about?
Genius. Not really common sense. He’s an incredibly crap manager, which is why we’re losing nearly every week. If the players are that bad and he’s a brilliant manager then he’s not going to be able to turn it around in the summer is he? It’s going to take three or four windows, and so we go round in circles.
Banging the Lambert drum; although by your twisted logic you’re still behind him, which is fair enough. None of us actually knows what’s going to happen. I would never have let the guy within 50 miles of the ground and nothing’s changed my view on that. If we’re back in the championship in 2020 and he’s still in the dugout I’ll be surprised but much stranger things have happened.
Wtf are you on about you stupid boy, nothing has changed, I am still of the same opinion as when Lambert started. The problem is.....the club is bad to the core and changing the manager every month is gonna solve nothing, it seems that Lambert can see what is wrong, it's just whether he is able to do anything about it or whether it goes to deep for anyone to sort. So I am not quick to change my mind at all, I think you will find most on here would agree I tend to dig my heels in, rather than change my opinion every week!
Just goes to show how humans can look at exactly the same thing and perceive two polar opposites. I agree that the club is rotten to the core and that we want to stick with the right person to build the club up, but Lambert is a bullshitter and far from a mastermind, he’s not part of the solution he’s part of the problem. Sunderland managed to attract Chris Coleman in a similar position who made a very good fist of it and should have been kept on, so I don’t accept the ‘who would come’ argument.
I'm confused.. You've contradicted yourself and ended up somehow agreeing with me.. On your second point, I do agree that work can (and should be done) on the training ground, but all the training in the world won't make Sears the burly physical centre forward that we need.. In fact it would be a complete waste of his current skill set. I understand that.. But we don't have the players to implement a different style of play even if we try millions of different way of setting up. You don't simply say "I want us to be more dynamic" and it suddenly happens.. Our midfield has for many years been very static and that hasn't really changed.. Of all the combinations you could put out on the pitch, none of them would be able to move the ball as quickly and efficiently as we'd like.. It's why we are where we are and Lambert (like Hurst and Mick before him) is having to make the best of what he has available to him. That means utilising Skuse and Chalobah deeper and asking the front 3 to hold the ball up in order to gain some territory
Jackson playing off Sears and Sears playing off Jackson are not the same thing. Lambert is not making the best of what’s available to him and that’s why we lose virtually every week.
Wait... What?.... Have you ever played football? Some of what I read on here honestly baffle me sometimes.. (not just you, but that one makes my head hurt) So if we're playing 'Jackson off Sears' what happens if the ball is played into Jackson? Which will inevitably happen, Football is an invasion game with minimal natural stoppages and no real structured pattern of play... So I really don't understand what you're trying to say as their is barely any difference in the two options unless we are so unbelievably regimented/robotic in how we play.
Here Scowey, educate yourself. See roles of ‘striker’ and ‘second striker’. No wonder you’re confused. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forward_(association_football)
