    This again tonight.

    Plus it's 'pull day' so it's;

    Barbell row, stood
    Lat pull down, seated
    Cable rows, seated

    Some arm stuff maybe.

5 mile walk with the dog today, then a 1/2 mile swim. That'll do <ok>

In the end, how much time would you expect to cut of that distance?

    Quite a bit i presume.

Could cut about 35 mins off if he just used the car.

Think he is implying you are a slow bastard and do you think you will ever get any faster?

I had the same issue and was running a 5k in 30mins beginning of last year. Got it down to 22.17 now and set myself a goal of below 20 by end of this year. Helped that I lost 14kg and been in the gym 5days a week and on the track 1day a week.

I'd be happy if I did the 10k in an hour!

But yeah, I appreciate it isn't quick. Although it doesn't feel slow, not at all!

I can still swim and run quite fast, over a short distance. That was my thing when I was a lad, 100m sprint, 110m hurdles and 50m freestyle swim. I did that at local borough level when I was growing up (until I discovered beer and girls)

But these days I am quite content to go slow. I swim 1/2 mile over about 20 mins which is probably the equivalent of a slow walking pace.

Same. I was quick and agile over short distances. It’s what led me to play fly half in Rugby.

Anything over 40-50 metres they’d run me down and catch me though

I wasn't knocking it - that was Comm. He will no doubt come back with how he could do that with a full set of gear including his gun when he was in the Marines while carrying another guy on his back.

Think you have to start off and build up the stamina which is what your runs will be doing. I read somewhere though that he only way to improve speed was to actually run faster. I was always worried that if I started too quick I would tire quickly so started by adding quicker kms towards the end and then gradually increasing the number of quicker kms.

I also started doing HIIT on the treadmill where I warm up (3min at 6km/hr, 5mins at 12km/h) and then do eight repetitions of 1min at 15km/hr, 1min at 6km/hr and 1min at 10km/hr. Feels relatively easy for first few repetitions but by the end you notice the 15km/h minute seems to come round quicker and take longer than the easier minutes. Its a 32min work out that covers about 5.4km but the time seems to fly by much quicker than a standard 5km run as its a bit more interesting.

    How was i knocking it?

He's just started again, and was curious if he'd set any goals as to what kind of times he reckons he could get over the sane distance after some time.

And yes while i do reckon it's slow, it's probably still twice as fast as i could do it at the moment.

Unlike all the other posts above, i was always **** at short distance, especially sprints.

It's more a case of being able to cover more miles in the same time as the same distance in a shorter time.

Same thing in the end though!!

I'd be happy to be able to do this 10k in September in an hour. That on the face of it is slow but it would do for me. That's my aim. It would then be a half marathon in two hours, should I take that **** on.

I find it staggering that marathon runners do that whole distance in what, for me, is a full pelt sprint!

It was only 800m but this was one of the most amazing athletics performances I've ever seen. Try sprinting 800m. Hurts a bit.

Helluva step from 10k to a half marathon mate. For that kind of training surely you wouldn't be using a treadmill?

Any potential half marathon is at least a year away.

And yes, as soon as it is no longer dark of an evening I'll be going back outside. I was before winter.

And I'm not scared of the dark, I just dont run on road, so it's not lit!

Same. Don't think I ever went any faster than 17 seconds over 100 metres. I could run the legs off a horse over long distance, though.

    This is class <laugh>

Did a 5k run on the treadmill after doing 3.5k yesterday to test my back out. Average time but I’m still not in agony so I’m hopeful that I can get a few more runs in before I’m hobbling about again for weeks.

I've been doing pretty well on the treadmill this week, improving my distance rather than speeding up.

Still got a boredom issue at about 4 miles though, can't make myself just keep going. Nothing hurts though and fitness wise it's not a problem.

Might get outside next week if this weather keeps up, feels like spring today. The gym I go to is rammed all the time at the moment, I walked back out on Monday as there was nothing at all I could do.

Rammed full of gym shark clad fanny though so it's not all bad.
