I don't disagree with your analysis, but this smells to me like an idea floated by one of Fox's team without any chance of this actually happening. Probably designed to get his name in the papers and 'threaten' the EU (ignoring the impact it will have on us, but Brexiteers have a habit of doing that).
I guess my ‘measured’ posts are the ones you agreed with. My position on Corbyn has been well documented on here, and it’s as negative as yours. For the record he is a Euro sceptic because he understands that membership of the EU would seriously hamper his radical socialist agenda if he was in power. And I fear radical socialism, especially when espoused by incompetents, just as much as I despise free market extremism. Yay for the well regulated mixed economy providing a decent standard of living for all! This was a comment on an extreme free market policy, not an anti Brexit comment. Brexit doesn’t have to involve the unilateral abandonment of tariffs, far from it. I’m sure a left wing Brexit would make us a far more protectionist country. As for posting positive stuff, I’ll post whatever I like, thanks. Just like you will continue to post whatever you like, which seems to be exclusively negative stuff about the EU. Fine, we’re clearly not from the same stock. I hope so. But I do believe that there is a hard core of free market zealots amongst the Brexiters, and this has always been a recognised sub culture within the Tory Party.
Did I just hear that from Donald Tusk.. "There is a place in hell for those who wanted Brexit". If that is correct then he is a bigger 2222 than I thought. He has concended that we are going and want's to get it sorted.
Tusk: "There is a special place in hell for people who promoted Brexit without any plan for how to do it". That's a bit nasty. Talk in EU is that 'No Deal' is more than likely.
Tusk looking very ratted this morning - "I wonder what the special place in hell looks like for those who promoted Brexit with not a sketch of an idea how to carry it out" Very undiplomatic language from the EU bureaucrats. Disrespectful of all UK Leavers. He is beginning to realise we are headed for a no deal and that failure in the negotiations will undermine Brussels hugely among member states. Whereas much of the UK electorate has seen the writing on the wall for some time
If I believed in hell I’d be inclined to agree with him. Do you think all those people so prominent on the leave side during the referendum campaign who have nearly all run away from responsibility and accountability for delivering Brexit have done a good job for Leave voters? That’s who he is talking about. Though if as a leave voter you are happy to be lumped in with Davis, Johnson et al I can see why you’d be insulted, and Leave voters are famously brittle and thin skinned, so probably not a clever thing to say by Tusk.
He looked and sounded defeated. He knows the game is up and if we leave with 'no deal' which looks likely the EU will come tumbling down. Sadly Goldie it will only be their fault for being stubborn. They could have adapted with the backstop but chose to be difficult. His comments are getting slated on Twitter and TV. Just plays into the hands of Brexiters.
I think he was talking specifically about politicians like Johnson, Davis, etc. But I might be wrong. You didn’t promote Brexit, you just voted for it.
I promoted it on here after the vote. That means I may be going to Hell... I will probably be with a few EU people though.
Don't believe in hell? You've never been to Millwall (away) There were exaggerations of both Remain and Leave sides, and Remain spent huge amounts of tax payers money (many multiples of Leave spending) to no avail. Since the 2016 referendum, the EU have treated the UK not as a sovereign nation seeking to regain independence, but like a teacher dealing with a recalcitrant pupil. As Ellers says, Tusk looks a broken man because, partly as a result of EU inflexible negotiations, he sees Remain having a dwindling influence in Parliament. He can't just rely on Mad Anna and Chukka. I personally don't feel insulted but I do think it's strange and disrespectful language from a senior politician. I can see a big split coming between the EU ideologues and European industry. You can see Tusk preparing his defence, by talking about preservation of peace.
Do you think these people have done a good job for you? Immediately after the vote they were all jockeying for jobs rather than concentrating on the strategy. Which was obvious even to a Remainer like me - interpret the vote as a mandate for a complete break with the EU (which I assumed it was) start planning for that immediately, invoke article 50 when you are sure you can cope with leaving with no deal, and make this strategy crystal clear to the EU. We would have taken a lot of the pain already and be in a much better place, probably with the EU keen to do a treaty with us. Instead weak leadership, a flimsy ‘have our cake and eat it’ approach, and total lack of vision on our side, and a ‘hope it will all go away’ and an ‘it’s their choice they have to own it’ attitude on the part of the EU have lead us to where we are now.
