Hope this is ok to post, delete if not... On Saturday 9th February there will be the 45th anniversary of the loss of the Trawler the Gaul. I’ve been asked to write a poem for the day, and read it out. Tomorrow the Newcastle chronicle are doing a piece on it, I rang them yesterday With the details and a copy of the poem. It’s in tomorrow’s edition. On Friday at 11.15 I’ll be on the David Burns breakfast show discussing the event And reading out the poem on air. All the proceeds will go to the fisherman’s mission Copies of my poem will be on sale for £1 each, every penny goes to the charity. If anyone wants to come along everyone is welcome, you don’t have to be associated With the fishing community or even went to sea, as I say everyone is very welcome. Apart from me, there will be singers, a folk band, other poets and of course plenty Of drink. There is also a buffet I think, calendar news will be there, Hull daily fail And possibly other media outlets. The Gaul was part of out history so it’s something That should be remembered. You cannot miss me, I’m the very tall twat Wearing a flat cap and glasses. If anyone wants a copy just pm and I’ll sort you one... Norman.
Well done. I remember it well. I knew one of the lads on board, Johhny Heywood, I think he was only 18, he sailed with his buddie and my mates elder brother, Brian Dudding. So it must also 45 years since we beat Manchester United at home 2-0 in the league ?
Great cause, well done. I remember it well, in fact, I went to the "Gaul Ball at the City Hall" which is a rather poetic name in itself, which was a fundraiser for the families. I worked for one of the trawler owners, and all the owners supported the event, as well as celebrities from Hull, such as Norman Collier.
I’m meeting the son of one of the lost crew Stan Collier, he bought one of my Calendars and loved it. Our history has to be remembered, in 55 years at The 100th anniversary everyone will have passed so it’s up to the youth Of today to remember....
Did the Dudding’s live around the Argyle Street area? I remember the name, I think I was mates with one of them back then, can’t remember his first name though.

Just been on radio humberside, hopefully went well, had a bit of a tongue tie as I was half way through the poem, I wouldn’t mind, I’ve been practicing all morning and it was word perfect then. It will be better tomorrow.... hopefully ha ha. Off air he’s asked me back on in a week or two, I’m going to try and read my poem “ real football players “.... it’s about going to see Hull city back in the days of black and white, whistles and rattles....
