I can't believe how bad people think the UK is. I suppose it is no different to the overhyped comments made about the last Millwall visit.

There are definitely some problems out there that need to be addressed. But there have always been problems be it the Victorian Gin days, the pre second world war flick knife gangs, 60's Mods and Rockers, 70 and 80's hooligans or modern day kid gangs. One big difference is the way the news is reported.

I am very proud to be English. All countries have their dark periods of history, so the modern hobby of hairshirts for past failings is ridiculous. Italy hang your head because the Romans took over the known world. Scandanavians should be so ashamed of the Vikings. What about the Moors who took over most of Southern Europe. We live in the 21st century. The British people are generally fairminded, try to be honourable and have a good sense of humour.

As an Englishman, I am proud of the positive things that my country has given to the world in terms of the English language, music, film, art, humour, literature, science and philosophy. I am also, on the whole, proud of our armed forces, as I believe they are the fairest and diplomatic in the world. I believe that the world should evolve, and there is nothing wrong with countries becoming more integrated, socially and economically for the benefit of everyone. England itself has been evolving for thousands of years and we are all a mish mash of different breeds and cultures, be it ancient Briton, German, Scandanavian, Norman or Roman and more recently from the West Indies, Asia and Eastern Europe. The main reasons for war are extreme Nationalism, extreme Religion and greedy politicians and businessmen. I believe there is nothing wrong with being proud of where you are born, but there is also no reason to fear the future, as the world inevitably becomes more integrated.

I genuinely feel sorry for the kids of today. They have the older generation paying too little tax and wanting to pay even less while their education system has been screwed leaving them with meaningless qualifications and meaningless degrees which they have to go into huge debts to obtain. The question is why are kids growing up wanting things as soon as they can get them. It is the older generation that have brought them up this way.

I love England. Its those that live here and moan about it that hack me off. I have done alot of travelling and can summize England is a decent place to live. The seasons and history enrich this country loads. As far as footy goes I dont get upset when we lose when the team is made up of knobs.
I do dread getting to the Prem League if thats the players we end up getting. I am confident with NA at the helm that it wont happen though.

Just seen a couple of people post this on Facebook:

"SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT ... If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 yrs. hard labour. If you cross the Afghanistan border illegally, you get shot. Two Americans just got eight years for crossing the Iranian border. If you cross the UK border illegally you get a job, a drivers license, food stamps 4 tesco, a place to live, health care, housing & child benefits, education, & a tax free business for 7 yrs ...No wonder we are a country in debt. Re-post if you agree!"

Does anyone else feel as angry reading this as I do? Not just because it's such a horrendous opinion to have, but because it seems there are quite a few people out there who are stupid enough to agree with it.

People are generally, stupid. Well, not all, but I'd say at least 60% of people I deal with are idiots. Its amazes me how the human race has got as far as it has.

I bet if 60% of an ant colony or bee hive were bloody useless, the species would have died out long ago.

I see where you are coming from, however within 60% the stupidity levels would vary.

I think about 10% of the population are beyond help. Which matches the viewing figures for this years Big Brother.....

The mainstream media is aimed at these idiots as they are the easiest to sell to. Howver their is plenty of quality about.

    Well said, and Fran.

I think some people here have made some valid points about young peoples aspirations to. People are fed a lot of sh*t, and without better education, start acting like it. OK its not that simple, but there is a flip side to capitalism I think, which is a bit ugly.

Hey Qwerty ! - I don`t believe the English(generally) hate the Scots, and the Scots don`t hate the English - honest ! Thank goodness for sporting rivalries - Scotland/Wales/Oz etc v England, Saints v Skates, Everton v Liverpool, etc etc. Makes the sporting world go round - how boring without them ! I lived in Soton from 75 to 78, became a regular at the Dell, and took great pride in three Scots being in the `76 cup winning 12.
Come on you Saints v Forest - I think Fox is a great signing - his delivery is great, and something Saints have been missing maybe.
